I know that Saul has reviewed a few of these but since I have the series up to date a a few others that are related , a revisit and a 'High Pass' on the series to date would be appropriate. Also James asked for a post etc on these at the last MA GOOGLE meet.
The WAR IN UKRAINE series 1-12 (so far) Europe@war No 21,28,33,35,36,40,43,50,53,55,56,69.
No 1 and 3 are a look into the history of the armoured formations of the Eastern territories taken from Ukraine 2014-2022. A nice overview of the conflicts that proceeded the invasion and where the current problems came from.
Photos Maps and Color profiles provided.
No 2
This one is a great read being a detailed account of the intial days of the invasion in 2022 with photos and color profiles.
No 4 & 5
These 2 are probably the best volumes as references for modelling the vehicles.
No4 covers the Russian Soviet legacy and post Soviet Main Battle Tanks in the Ukraine from 2014 - 2022 and No5 deals with the same on the Ukrainian side plus combat experience. These 2 volumes go into excellent detail around all the MBTs, from weapon systems and their differences, to the power output, short-comings and even the production backgrounds on the factories producing them and their dynasties/links to each other. there is also ood detail and dwgs on the construction of the armour bricks and plates used on these too
Good photos, Maps, technical drawings and color profiles.
No 6 & 7
These 2 cover the specifics of the air war from Feb to June 2022, focusing on all the aircraft and strategies applied by both sides. Maps, color photos and profiles as well.
No 8 & 9
No 8 deals with the battle for Kyiv from Feb to April 2022, describing in detail the battles engaged in the East and West of the city. Photos Maps and color profiles included.
No 9 deals specifically with the Soviet - designed artillery systems used by both sides in the region from 2014 -2022.
with photos and color profiles.
No 10 deals specifically with the Ukrainian and Western - designed artillery systems used in the war from 2022 -2024.
with photos and color profiles.
No11 comes back to the overview of the war and deals with the Battle of Chernihiv Feb - March 2022.
with photos, Maps and color profiles.
No 12
This is the latest volume which I only recieved in the mail Today. It deals with the overall battle again, but now has arrived at the point where the counteroffensives around Kharkiv and Slobozhanska can be looked into. It follows the same format as the rest of the series with Maps, good photos and color profiles.
Currently I have read the ground forces books up to Vol 9 but have gone back to read the air offensive books 6 & 7
Next Up I have also 2 vols on the Wagner Group, which covers the full history of this private Mercenary force from Beginning to the bitter end when Putin had the leader killed by blowing up his plane on his way back to his troops.
Finally I grabbed the book on the First Chechin War in 1994. After reading up on the current conflict I became interested in the adjoining wars and will chase down a volume on the Georgian conflicts as well.
