tubing

many moons ago i got some 1mm black tubing in a kit, i cant remember what it was but the best way to describe it was "limp". If i said you could take a yard of it , hold it above a bench then lower it and coil it as it hit the bench under its own weight , that might describe how loose and limp it was. Has anyone come across this ? was it silicon or rubber ?

If it was really soft and pliable, it might be silicon. Occasionally I get a watch with silicon gaskets and they are almost too soft.

Keep up the great work on the MFH Matra!

Any of these look right? Second and third are by Tamiya.

PS yes I know the frst one is clear, but comes in so many sizes.

Another way of describing it would be imagine having a small gold chain, it acts like that. I have found some in my box and i took a short video of it and its something daft like 35mb :)

I want it floppy, it means that if you use it on a car as wiring or a plug lead etc it sits naturally. I just want to know what it is so i can buy some mor e :)

Hi Paddy, we corresponded briefly on messenger about your BT45 MFH kit. I saw this post and I suffer the desire to find scale wiring without that nuisance memory you get with metal cored wire. From your description of its behaviour I have a suggestion which I’ve not tried (but plan too) which is elastic string. There are a lot of varieties of elastic string and Konmay Black TPU Crystal Elastic String is a smooth type, comes in a dispenser and is used for beading chord, bracelets and jewellery making. Comes in a variety of thicknesses from about 0.6mm up in 0.1mm increments.
Cheers,
Terry

Hi Terry. Good to see you here, how did you find us :)
I have some of this stuff. I am pretty sure its silicon rubber

This 1mm OD x 0.5mm ID and is exactly what we need however it came in a kit and i cant find it sold separately. it is elastic and if i was to pick up the above by one end, it will hang down dead straight where as nthe std plastic tube Tamiya use would stay roughly as it is above.

Verlinden used to have something similar (limp kind) ...... it was definitely silicone.

Hi Saul, i wish i could remember, i doubt it would have been Tamiya because all their in box products are available as accessories.
I doubt it was a motorcycle as i have about 3ft of it. it wasnt any of the italeri cars i built so its just possible it was the Revel e-type. not much else i have built comes with this sort of extra in the box.

What i have done is ordered some silicon tube to see it thats it so will report back as soon as i have it

I believe the Tamiya stuff is a vinyl base and thus is a bit more stiff. Thin silicon rubbers are usually a LOT softer.
I need some braided cord for my 1/16th scale stuff and thought up yesterday about heavy duty fishing cord. Have to make a WalMart run to see if I am correct.

I'm sure the two links I gave you for the Tamiya silicon tubing are just what you are showing in your pic.
