I have tweaked the front fence location and arrangement of the “junk” so that the ATR team has more room to move through the gate next to the Brummbar. Also, the gate opened further, funnels the view towards the figures.
This is why I like all the pieces almost ready for paint, but not yet painted, so I can move them around and make sure it all works and that the story makes sense to the viewer.
So here is the current tweaked layout.

Adding texture.
Texture mix is made from driveway edge grunge, dirt, small rocks, sand, etc. to this I add some loose static grass and fine roots cut into small sections.
I then paint PVA glue into the base in the areas I want to build up, then liberally sprinkle the grunge mix over this glue. I immediately drip 70% IPA over the grunge, then diluted PVA. This is followed by another layer of the grunge. Let it set then tap off any loose pieces.

Thanks for the process notes John. I wouldn't really know where to start with the ground work and this is a big help.

Thanks, I was looking back and I didn’t add photos of what comes before texture.
So pretty simple, but the brown painted insulation foam received a coat of AK terrain paint, color matters not as it’s just “teeth” for what comes next.
Once the AK stuff is totally set I built up refined contours with VMS Smart Mud, this is somewhat difficult to work with, but gives way more working time than epoxy putty, and easier to drill etc as well. It also doesn’t shrink like air dry clay. Before it sets its textured by a hog hair brush.
Sorry for omitting this important step.
