Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Hey Paul, I could have told you about that place! I walk into it every now and then to get my airbrushes serviced, get new parts and even some awesome accessories. Yeah, They are a fantastic shop!

Now for me, thanks to some good friends (yes, I do have them!!) I was able to get these things, one was a raffle prize, the other was some things a friend was getting rid of.

First the prize:

A magnificent book that will tell you just about anything you want to know about the Italian Air Force in WWII. Man, I have an even higher respect for them now after reading this:

The next thing (or things) I got were these three LED light strips powered by 9-volt batteries and are turned on by a magnet:

These went inside my church I've been building for awhile, now the stained glass windows can be seen when these are on.

Finally, the last three birthday purchases came in:

Okay, that's all I got for now, time to prepare for another tour.....

My old compressor storage tank pitted in a couple of places,so I got this from Spraygunner

Yeah, I have had to do a couple of repairs on mine over the years. The first repair they put a carbon steel ball bearing in the check valve from the compressor to the tank. The ball rusted and it wouldn't hold air. fixed it with a acrylic part I made that has worked perfectly ever since. It doesn't run long enough to make enough heat to damage the acrylic part.
I then put some risers under the feet so it has a couple of inches under it, and added a handle to the drain plug. I shut it off and open the drain every time now when I am done. I know the inside of the tank is all rusty, but can't do anything about that except what I am doing.

Mine is even smaller than that :) about the size of the top without the tank but it does have a tank just big enough to take any pulsing out of the air flow. Best thing is its silent and more than adequate to power my Renegade Krome...I tend to use cans for anything larger than a 1/32 camo. The compressors tanks at work used to have an annual inspection by the insurance company but they would last 30 year. I did drain them last thing each Friday and i could get a pint of water out of them but they only ever ran at about 100psi. mainly as airlines for blowing swarf off machines.

I patched it 4 yrs ago with JB Weld, and the original hole held but now there's more.

Today i ordered this.....................oh i can hear the groans already :) another bloody car 🤣

12_MS11_002.jpg

Its an ultra rare MFH kit in that it didnt sell and is still available a year after launch. i have several MFH kits already but i look in the boxes and i am a bit defeated, they are right on the edge of my ability and too expensive to mess up. There are many techniques to building with white metal and resin that you never learn with styrene kits so you have to learn again, getting super glue or even paint to stick to white metal is a challenge for starters. A complete trial assembly is essential as you have to drill all mounting and positioning points and so on. For this reason i bought the above.
The really observant will notice :) it has no hood, roof, trunk or doors......and a very small glazed area. this really does simplify things and should allow me to get some more learning done without making things overly complicated.

NOT another bloody car, but ANOTHER INTERESTING BUILD!!!!
I will be looking forward to this one Paddy. There is nothing wrong with having a special kit and not building it yet as you don't feel ready yet. I have a number of those type kits. Every new build I do seems to challenge my skills and I learn some more techniques.

Edit @paddy
For example I have 5 full HPH kits (Fw189, Helldiver, Me410, PBY Catalina, and the 1/48th B-36), a launcher for the Arado Ar196 (HPH), and a slew of WNW kits that I refuse to start until I fully feel up to them. They are all the way from the 2 Junkers kits all the way up to the Gotha and Felix Stowe seaplane. Yeah there are more, but I am finding the 1/16th armor kits are buildable, fun to build, and challenging in the right ways for me to get my skills and confidence up to snuff to build the rare stuff and do the kind of finish I want them to end up.
The Takom Jeep with trailer is supposed to ship this week and that and the other Jeep will be prep for building the M3 halftrack. the sFH18 Howitzer is coming together nicely with many sub assemblies some of which I primered yesterday. Some of that was to get primer in areas on one assembly that I wouldn't be able to reach if it were fully assembled, and then I primered the barrel assembly that I did the jig and other work on to see how well it finished out.
Challenges, but coming up with the solutions was invigorating and gave me a good feeling with the results.
Go for it my friend! We are watching and learning from you!

Well Andy popped up with a bunch of 1/16th figures. Some in the $20 range, a couple of others much more, but will be perfect additions to stuff I have in stash or are currently building.
@Tim A. If you are interested in figures for your Tiger or tank builds, the two Classy Hobby figures would probably do well with your Tiger if you are interested.
Here goes the list.

These all are decent figures that should add to the vehicles I have currently in stash. The only one that I could have probably done without is the American Tanker figure as I don't have any American tanks. Duh! but is was one of the cheaper figures so no biggie.

One of the things that got me interested in models again was WNW Paul, even now one of 2 aircraft i ever kept is my WNW Bristol fighter. I got totally immersed in the rigging . it was great fun and its a crying shame they were the model company that didnt make it as they were by far the best. Unfortunately my refusal to be taken for a mug means i wont pay the going rate for them now. My interest is tweaked now buy these 1/16 armour models as i fancy the research side and they would be big enough for some sort of scratching :)

The Pak 40 kit from Das Werk I finished last year had a lot of good points but it had a LOT of omitted parts, and the shield had a couple of BIG issues that I was able to tackle, modify, and correct. Those issues will also be on the SdKfz 251/22 which has the Pak 40 mounted on it and while the shield is made up of different parts, it has the same issues, as well as some of the omitted parts (like the firing plunger in the center of the elevation wheel)
In looking at the Gecko Models Panzer Jager II kit (Panzer II with a Pak 40 mounted on it) The Pak 40 had the omitted parts and the gun shield issues look to be correct. I am enjoying the builds and research on them, and even though they are quite large, the amount of detail you can add makes the builds quite enjoyable.
