Hasegawa 1/32 P-40E. Update 5-23

In your collection do you have a decent or a couple of decent representations of the rear of the instrument panel?

Keep in mind that armor covers it but there are glimpses during restoration. It will take a while to go through the manuals. In the meantime, click the photos to visit the restorations:

I also go to warbird parts stores:

A few more photos from an Australian government run museum made from original parts. Keep in mind the manuals would cover each intrsument separately and how to connect them so it will be a lot of images, if found.

It isn't confusing for me as I graduated from Aviation High School with Airframe & Powerplant licenses as well as an avionics degree (taken during summer school). Part of the classes were drafting WITHOUT the use of AutoCad. Not everyone was so blessed as we were!

I started out with writing sticks and pens drawing on vellum, mylar and linen. First rule, never make more mistakes in the morning than you can erase in the afternoon.

We switched to Intergraph's Interactive Graphics Design System (IGDS) in the mid-80's in the days when it ran on a VAX 11/780, magnetic tape reels and hard drives the size of a coffee table. It has since morphed into Microstation.

Cheers,

Daaaaamn!!.jpg

You do come up with the detail paperwork Saúl!

I was a draftsman for over 20 years before becoming a watchmaker. The last 10 years I did drafting, I also did circuit board prototypes and sheet metal fabrication. Had 3 years of drafting in high school, 3 semesters of A& P aircraft training in college and 2 semesters of mechanical technology which covered metallurgy and machining.

So

NOT confused at all.

When i was a kid we used to chisel designs like that on to granite blocks at school with a bone mallet and an old nail..

I'm not sure it's the same tape drive but we found some 8" tapes when cleaning out old hardware for e-cycle. I went to just pitch them out and the old IT guy said "Wait, there's data on those tapes!"
"Sure but who the hell can read it?" I said
10 minutes later and another gaylord full of junk, we found an 8" tape drive!:geekon:

Sorry for the hijack Joe. Back to your fight! :pilot

I have an ancient hard disk platter hanging on my wall It is copper colored, 14 inches in diameter with a 6 1/2 inch hole in the center. I think it was a 10 megabyte disk.

No worries. Got to admit though, I really do enjoy looking at the drawings and schematics when I do research.

Ok, confusion has set in. The instrument panel seems to change with every picture i see. The lower part seems to have a vary of configurations. Also noticing differences in the starboard side of the cockpit. Some show a breaker panel others do not.

Thought I was good to push forward but unsure now.

Edit. I should clarify. I know some of the pictures are restored aircraft. I am just seeing a wide variety of configurations.

Let's do this Joe, you got dials up front, make a corresponding hocky puck on the back. Just match up what's up front to the back. Instrument panels would change greatly over the life of an aircraft. Base it off the drawings you got from Saul, the more pictures you check it you're going to find all sorts of different arrangement of restored aircraft.
