The old museum. 1993 through 2015.
Wow, I am honored and humbled to be a part of a community of such auspicious modelers. I look back at all you've done; take note of the times and dates and I remember back to how clueless and out of touch I was despite building models almost incessantly during many of the years you mention. I almost cry thinking of how much I missed out on seeing all this. You have lived a magnificent life. While I'm extremely proud of my milestone in small scale armor; it seem so exceptionally inconsequential to such monumental accomplishments such as yours are. Heck. if you had room; I'd offer to bequeath the whole armor collection to your museum for display after I'm gone, but that won't happen. LOL! I always felt that Verlinden and many other companies have always neglected my scale; thinking it too 'small' and unpopular to even consider a few pieces. That being said, I have to say I was quite thrilled to see the few 1/72 scale pieces that you built. It felt good that someone of your stature would try something in my chosen scale.
I am anxiously awaiting Chapter IV and I am making plans to try and come to the Omaha Nationals and meet a very good friend of mine there. We are discussing the possibility of coming a day or two earlier just to come spend the day at your museum. I do hope and pray it is possible.

For the most part, I have always had this habit of being at the right place at the right times. Magnificence had nothing to do with it, at least from my side. Just one hell of a lot of luck! I won't debate about the wonderful life. I have hundreds of great people to thank for it and in this brief history, I have tried to do just that. So many of the people who played major roles in this history are no longer with us. I had the good fortune to have had much of the modeling aspect of my life chronicled by photographs. I was blessed with a very sharp memory and just wanted to put everything I can remember in writing. I have had help with details here and there by my wife Susan and Wes Bradley, who both rode the roller coaster all the way with me from the very beginning.
I only hope those who read it with no recollection of the events within, enjoy it as have the ones who witnessed it personally and are following it weekly. They have written me to correct names and dates, places, events and details as they read it.
I hope you can make it to Omaha and, if possible, make a side trip to visit! Please keep me posted when you know the dates.

You're perfectly welcome Alex. You do know you are one of only 18 modeler's to win that trophy, don't you? In fact, the one you had was the very last one I made. I made them for only the first two Mastercon/Eagle Quests held in Dallas. After that, they switched to another. It looks like your walls are as crowded as mine! You are one of the best there is Alex, no doubts about that!
Keep bringing them home Alex. Nobody deserves them more!

The EAGLE is always at my right keeping company at the workbench, as you can see with these photos from years gone by.

Not much left to say after reading all these chapters. Glad you took the time to tell the story. It is such a great gift, to be able to talk about all these things in a way that is so captivating.
Only speaking for myself here, I have always wanted to know more about the history of our hobby, who did what and when, who is famous for what and so on and so forth. Here in Oz, we don't have anywhere near the number of modelers, competitions and stuff like you lot have in the US and even Europe. Possibly because Australia only has 23 million people on a land the size of the US minus Alaska.

Be sure and watch those, They are enlightening! :laugh: I have finally finished everything I had to do after the move and have actually been modeling for more than a week now. I'll be posting shortly on "Logistics, the Armor".

Bob, thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to share with us your life's work.
I had been away from the forum for little while so had missed this, thanks to SA Dave for sharing this with me.
I have to take a moment and say how much your work has inspired me in my own, I'm sure the humble man that you are would find these comments amusing. But its thanks to you and Shep that has driven me in my own take if you will in this hobby. So before i forget to say it, Thank you for inspiring me and pushing me to be a better model making.

Thank you for the kind words. I posted all that for no other reason than I hoped the people who were the pioneers of our hobby could be seen and remembered by the newer members. Such people shouldn't be forgotten. I was fortunate enough to have known them and worked with them in many cases and those experiences I will never forget.

I haven't contributed much when you look at people like Shep Paine, Verlinden and so many others. I was just fortunate to have been able to be there when it all happened. Looking back on it, I was at the perfect time, perfect place with the perfect people to have watched all that history happen. I will say i consider myself one lucky guy for that reason!
I enjoyed my quarter century as a cop. I was young and I suppose naive because I was in the worse place with the most crime of any city in the world, once more, allowing me to experience things I never would have otherwise. I guess you could say my talent is being at the right place at the right time!
I have loved European architecture as far back as I can remember. I'm a proud American, but I wish we had even a fraction of the history like all those European countries. I spent a tremendous amount on time there, and, all the while absorbing as much as I could of all that beautiful stone and mortar, not to mention the cultures, that my European friends took as ordinary and routine!
Hopefully, I will get back to your neck of the woods and we can throw back a few beers like last time!

It always takes more than one person to make things evolve . The one with forward thinking ; the creator and the facilitator.
I sure do miss a lot of things about Europe . A good deal of the old architecture is still there but modern Europe seems to be losing the culture that use to be present .
