BV 138 Flying Clog

Well finally moved in and online , but still a lot to do . Great progress on the BV 138 , Chris !!!

Would leave to see you tackle one of these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDlBspsvGnU

What a monster ! :pilot

It's funny you would bring up the BV 222 . I actually though ( briefly ) about getting one from squadron last month. The y were selling them incredibly cheap .

I would love to see one together but honestly, where on Earth would you park it when done ?

Yesterday I even thought of another floater .

Latecoere_298_13.jpg

but after giving the kit a good once over I got over it . Don't think it would be that much easier than the clog.

I need an easier build for now :rotf

Cheers, Christian B)

Time here has been very hard to come by since my last update but I keep plodding along as best I can :soldier

All the decals , mostly from the spare box have been applied . No problems there.

clog_markings_001_a.jpg

The squadron insignia was troublesome and I had no decals large enough to replace the lower wing crosses

I first coated them with Micro decal film so they would not disintegrate but that turned the black gray.( ??? ) :blink

Clog_paint_update_005_a.jpg

I then used the micro sol/set and when that failed to work I tried mark softener/setter . To no avail.

Clog_paint_update_004_a.jpg

After that fiasco, I tried something I have read about ( in good faith ) :zen

I applied Future over and under the decals and in due time it worked :good: .

Clog_paint_update_006_a.jpg

The other side laid down good but this one still shows some wrinkles . In retrospect, the next time I will go straight for the Future. Worse ever !

I will probably have to hunt for a replacement for this one :bang head

In the mean time I assembled and painted the props ( :S ) and made some brass exhaust pipes and hung the door .

Clog_paint_update_007_a.jpg

Since then I have laid down some oils but the top ones still need another overnight to be dry enough.

clog_paint_wash_001_a.jpg

I think now I'll attempt to build some turrets :facepalm

Thanks for looking , Christian B)

Keep after it Christian! You will get it worked out. Still looks good.

Such dedication to a project. I know I would have retreated to something less challenging by now.

That's not a decal that's a sticker! :blink

sending decal :zen :zen

I will T . Biggest problem right now is the decals...... I have nothing in 1/48 and no hobby shop to look in :bang head

Cheers, Christian B)

Thank luiz . Right now , I'm trying to build a double diameter base for the turret.....Needs to be very round.

Interesting proposition :fencing Already got a couple parts wrong :facepalm Making more hopefully correct :coolio

Thanks Ian . I can't really explain my desire to finish this monster but so far nothing has really tore up my nerves to speak of :gogo

Not sure what those things are Bob but definitely not quality

Chris let me check my stash, I think I got some 1:48 decals that could fit this. Turn your cell phone on this evening and I'll give you a ring.

Looks gorgeous Chris. Downer about the decals though. Wish I had some left I could send you.
James

Thanks guys . Should be a show coming up before real long . Might find something there as well.

Cheers, Christian B)

Let me know what size, I have a ton of 1/48 German decals including some generic sheets with just crosses on them. Great work so far, don't want to see you stall out for lack of a dekkal !

Thanks you very kind of you to offer . Sending PM. :)

But have no fear, this will keep moving forward as I'm able . With or without the decals.

Regards Christian B)

OK, I'll bring you guys up to date. Jury duty completed today. :yipee

Wife had her first post op today and is feeling much better. One more week to go. :D

Having her around 24/7 is derailing my building time. Not that fast anyway :soldier

So, an update on the turrets.

The kit version :(

clog_inards_008_a.jpg

I have found out that I can make some very precise disks in the last couple days.

Here we are . One for the base and the other an inside plug. The glass come from Falcon canopies.

clog_turret_001_a.jpg

clog_turret_003_a.jpg

the first assembly nearly fell out of site.

It should look more like this Squadron pic which is 1/72 scale

clog_turret_004_a.jpg

So, I compared the two and added shims till they were the same height . 160 thousand to be exact.

clog_turret_002_a.jpg

My next attempt looked better. Still needs paint and a gun stand .

clog_turret_005_a.jpg

Thanks for looking. Cheers, Christian B)

Only found a few minutes today but just enough to shim the rear turret .

clog_turret_2_001_a.jpg

Hope to do more tomorrow.

Cheers, Christian B)

Missed that previous update for some reason, sorry Chris. So you shimmed it up an cut down the shims to shape, are you going to hollow them out once the you get them sized up?

:popcorn

Good question Bob. To be perfectly honest I had only considered gluing the gun mount on the upper plate :idonno

Now, I need to see if I can find more detail on the turrets. but I think that would be tricky :S What I have so far is external only.

Yikes, more research :facepalm If anyone has some useful material, please share.

Cheers, Christian B)
