Gonna be a Secret Santa Gift Exchange this year?

Just curious as this year is going fast and the time is getting short. I wouldn't mind participating as I can only get models for Christmas this way.

Mark,if you don't mind paying the insane postage costs if you draw someone from Europe,Australia,Asia and so on,and there is enough interest from other members.... :idonno

Greetings,Ron.

This is the reason why it won't be easy unless we find people in each geographical area to do so...

Regards,

Okay then. You know the world has really gone to hell when the economy prevents people from giving to each other in the spirit of Christmas.

It was fun while it lasted, I guess all good things must end sometime.

We've never had one Mark. :idonno

That previous comment was made in reference to two other Forums where we did have one and the same comment about postage came up there too. In those two cases, they were fun while they lasted. Sorry for the confusion.

Saul, I do believe you have my address since you did send me the 1/32 scale Tiger II, which I am still working on. But if it is gone, no worries. I'm hoping to make more progress on that Tiger II; it's pretty tough for me working with such a large model. It is one of about 12 backlogged models I need to finish that I want to get done.

Mark if you want to coordinate one I'll be glad to support you anyway I can on this site. I'm already involved in one on another forum and will join in if you need someone to round it out. Let me know but remember it would be your puppy to clean up. :mpup

Shalom.

Sometimes we come across a kit that we think might be useful in a kitbash or that someone else might want. Is there a particular kit you are looking for?

Cheers from Peter

As someone who has conducted these things on a couple forums I can tell anyone reading that starting it this late will be...problematic. Especially trying to coordinate everyone outside the U.S.

From my experience, with a site as big as this one, 15 Oct should have been the deadline for signups. That is after putting the word out in August at the latest.

I ain't saying it can't be done. I'm saying it will be more than difficult, especially when you factor in over-seas shipping times.

I would go past my character limit if I attempted to list all the brush-fires that will pop up and all the times you will keep answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over and over.

It's a labor of love that will drive you mad. If anyone here wants to attempt it with this short of a notice, I will join and have your back. Just be ready to deal with things you never thought possible.

Thanks Jeff, well Mark, you want to pick up that torch?

Maybe best for someone to take this challenge for next Christmas and we have an associated SS Campaign to build everything.

Well, in the other forums I visited which had one, I was a true Secret Santa as I asked the person putting it together which member was in need. No publicity nor the desire to get something in return (back then I could afford overseas shipping too).

Regards,

Thanks for all the great replies guys. MP, I'm not real sure that I could coordinate one of these, especially at such a late date. I think it would be best to pass on this for this year, but it would be nice if someone did do one next year. It's probably a good thing. While I have quite a bit in the "for sale" pile, I don't know if I'd have the kit I need for my SS, nor do I have the cash to get one given how my business has slowed way down this year. So let's allow this one to pass and maybe we can pick it up next year with someone more experienced than I running it.

Thanks again for all the great replies guys.

Hell, I'll do it next year. Just need to start gauging interest in the summer.

I am officially reserving the right to rant and rave in public whenever anyone is being stupid. (I'll leave names out but I'm still gonna squawk) ;)

:woohoo:

way to go Jeff.

Jeff, as before... keep me in mind if you know someone who needs but isn't in a position to provide. I will always be fine sending something from my personal stash but I need a clue as to what would be of interest.

Regards,

Saul, when people join and PM me their info, one of the things they tell me is what subject and scale they prefer. As far as people not being able to give a gift, well... they cannot join.

The Secret Santa thing is a gift exchange more or less but the way I do it is to mix everyone up, i.e. you won't get a kit from the person you sent one to.

Setting up something to give kits to the less fortunate is beyond the scope of this. If someone wants to set up something like that, they are free to do so. I'll even donate a kit.

But we are getting way ahead of ourselves. This is still a year away.

At one of the sites with the Secret Santa, the organizer always told me of a few who would but could not join. These were the ones I sent kits to.

Oh well, since I don't want kits coming towards me (as I'm trying to get rid of much of what I have), I won't participate. I do admire your volunteerism and will back you up each time you need to vent!
