Wingnut Wings News

On the good side, the Sopwith Camel is progressing and test shots have been made. They were on display at Scale Expo in April and will be shown again this weekend at the Shizouka Hobby Show. They hope to have it ready before years end.

On a less happy note, free shipping will end in mid-June. They will be establishing shipping centres in the US, Europe and Hong Kong to try to keep shipping costs down. Smaller items like decals and spare sprues will continue to be shipped from NZ. They expect there will be some downtime around 15 June while the bring the new system on line.

Cheers,
Rich

Anyone built the Wingnuts Wings Gotha G. IV? I have been thinking about doing one of these kits, and this one kinda caught my eye... :snoopy

I have one half built and just got a second along with a conversion to make a g.v.
another

There is also a build here from a couple of months ago https://www.modelersalliance.com/forum/to-end-all-wars/150846-wingnuts-gotha?limitstart=0&start=48#236280

The Gotha is a nice kit JS. I have one in my stash and am just wanting to get some other kits built before tackling it. As I have said before my building is good, but my paint (in my opinion) needs more practice.

Hopefully I will get all my bills paid off in the next 2 months though it looks like I will be biting the bullet and buying a house. Will have to see how that affects my bills though in the long run I should be able to save money.

Also looks like trips to the nationals will be nada this year for the same reason, but not a bad thing.

Update from Wingnut Wings on the end of free shipping.

Hi,

An update on the end of free shipping.

End of free shipping on 17 June 2016 (New Zealand time)

Yes it's true, after 7 years of being able to provide you with free worldwide shipping this service will be coming to an end in 2 weeks.

We have been investigating numerous options to provide you with the most cost effective shipping available. To this end, we are pleased to announce that Wingnut Wings models will begin shipping from the same warehouses in the USA, Europe and Hong Kong used by our very good friends at Weta Workshop (www.wetanz.com/shop). Dave will continue to ship smaller items like decals, spare sprues etc as well as models from the New Zealand warehouse.

Answers to some frequently asked questions about what will happen after the end of free shipping...

•When you place your order you should be able to display prices in US$, GBP £, Euro € , AUD$ and NZ$
•You will be able to choose to have your order shipped from the USA, Europe, Hong Kong or NZ warehouse (subject to stock availability).
•European Union VAT will be added to orders shipped to EU addresses from the European warehouse only. The great benefit of this will be that EU customers will no longer have to pay any VAT collection fees at the border.
•New Zealand GST will be added to orders shipped to NZ addresses from the NZ warehouse only.
•VAT/GST will not be added to orders shipped to non EU or NZ addresses. Depending on what country you live in and the value of your order there may be additional customs tariffs, duties, taxes and/or other fees imposed by your government and/or mail provider. These fees will remain your responsibility.

Despite the very best of preparations, a change like this involving the integration of 3 new shipping locations, is bound to encounter unforeseen problems. We expect that there will be some down time from 17 June 2016 when it will not be possible for you to place orders. Please do not be alarmed if/when this happens, hopefully it won't last longer than a few days but it could be a couple of weeks. Don't panic!

We will contact you again when we have some more information.

JS - Gotha is a beautiful kit and MASSIVE!!!!! mUhAHAHAHA

Purchase it before the shipping change or pay for your lack of vision!

Ian.

I am "almost" at a point where I can order some kits again. (next week) :geek

Then I will put in a large order for several more kits. Still want the Felix Stow with the HB29, but that one will have to wait just a touch longer.

Another update from Wingnut Wings.

Hi,

A further update on the end of free shipping and new ordering information.

From early July, Wingnut Wings products will be sold and distributed through our very good friends Weta Workshop. Our entire range will now be available at http://www.wetaworkshop.com/shop when their new website comes online in early July.

The Wingnut Wings website is staying but you will simply be directed to http://www.wetaworkshop.com/shop when it comes time to complete your purchase.

We’ll endeavour to make the transition as smooth as possible. Here’s a brief rundown of how these changes will affect you, as a Wingnut Wings customer.

WEBSITE
Is the Wingnut Wings website staying?
Yes. You will still be able to browse our products, reference material, read the latest news, and learn about your model at http://www.wingnutwings.com. The only difference is you will be directed to the Weta Workshop website to complete your purchase.

Can I still order and pay via the Wingnut Wings website?
No. Orders and payments will be made through http://www.wetaworkshop.com/shop

PAYMENT
How can I pay?
You will still be able to pay via PayPal as before, as well as with Visa & Mastercard.

What currency can I pay in?
All prices on the site will be set to US$ by default, but you can choose to pay in EUR €, GBP £, NZ$ or AU$. All non-US currencies will be calculated on the fly based on a daily exchange rate.

ACCOUNT
Do I need a Weta Workshop account to place an order?
No. But there are benefits to creating an account, such as being able to take advantage of the Weta Dollars rewards system.

WETA DOLLARS
What are Weta Dollars?
“Weta Dollars” is Weta Workshop’s online shopping rewards system. Every time you shop, you earn Weta Dollars, which you can then use to save money on your next purchase.

Can I earn Weta Dollars on Wingnut Wings products?
Yes! You can earn Weta Dollars on almost all Wingnut Wings items. Please note that at the present time, Weta Dollars do NOT apply to any extra sprues and parts that you order via email.

How much can I save?
As a starting point, for every 100 United States Dollars you spend, you earn 5 US equivalent Weta Dollars – but the more you buy, the more you save.

For example, spend US$501-1000 in any 12-month period, and you will earn 10 Weta Dollars for every 100 spent. Spend over US$1000, and earn 15 Weta Dollars.

How do I spend my Weta dollars?
Weta Dollars can only be earned and redeemed at http://www.wetaworkshop.com/shop and only on items that you order and pay for by credit card through the online checkout. The Weta Dollars will be credited to your account upon payment.

At check out, you can opt to use your Weta Dollars to offset the cost of your next purchase.

Will my Weta Dollars expire?
Weta Dollars are valid for 24 months from the day they are added to your account.

For more details on the Weta Dollars rewards system, click here.
https://wetaworkshop.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/sections/200272844-Weta-Dollars

Can I save my payment details for my next order?
Yes. If you create an account, you can securely save your credit card details.

SHIPPING/WAREHOUSING
Where are the overseas warehouses located?
Weta Workshop’s warehouses are located in Seattle, Washington (serving the USA, Canada and Mexico); the Netherlands (serving Europe and the Middle East); and Wellington, New Zealand (serving all other nations). Please note that some small products, including engine sprues and spare parts, will only ship from New Zealand. Unfortunately, there will be no shipping from Hong Kong or the ability to select an alternative warehouse to have your order shipped from as previously advised. Sorry.

How will this affect Taxes/VAT etc on my order?
Orders shipped from the Netherlands to EU addresses will have 21% VAT added at check out so you should not incur additional tax collection fees etc. Orders shipped from New Zealand to NZ addresses will have 15% GST added at check out. For everywhere else, depending on what country you live in, and the value of your order, there may be additional customs tariffs and duties, value added tax (VAT) and/or other fees imposed by your government and/or mail provider. Please note that Weta Workshop and Wingnut Wings are not responsible for these fees.

CONTACTING US/CUSTOMER SERVICE
Who can I contact for help?
Anthony is your main point of contact at Weta Workshop. He’s here to help you if you have any questions or problems with your order. Dave will continue to be your go-to person for technical and general enquiries. You can contact them both at [email protected] and [email protected].

How do I order spare parts/replacements?
For now, this system will continue to work as normal. Simply email [email protected] with the sprue, item code number from the back of your instruction booklet.

To continue receiving email updates on Wingnut Wings, we recommend signing up to the Weta Workshop mailing list here.

Checked their site this morning and evereything is "Coming Soon". It seems to me kind of silly that they have not reissued any of the out of stock kits.

I have the large order on it's way. Looking forward to having two Hansa Brandenburg float planes in my hands. :woohoo:

Weta Digital is the name of Jackson's animation/production studio. Weta Workshop makes props and replicas of the movie stuff. A weta is a large, grashopper-ish insect.

That's Peter Jackson's company...think similar to George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic- WETA did all the costume design and pretty much every bit of effects work for all the Tolkien films- LOTR and the Hobbit...

Went thru the purchase process as an exercise. Relatively painless, however it picks the warehouse it will ship from. Shipping for a Snipe ($79 USD) from the US warehouse to Canada starts at $40 USD via UPS Ground (not a great option here), $50 USD via Other (whatever that may be, USPS?). Both have an estimated delivery of 26 Oct 2016?

This will put a damper on expanding the Wingnut collection.

Cheers,
Rich

As of today, when ordering multiple kits they will be shipped as one order and shipping combined.

Cheers,
Rich
