Weird bug. Anyone know what it is?

These have appeared in our garden. Never saw anything like it before anywhere. Anyone know what it is? BTW it never stopped flapping its wings and they were going some fast, almost like a hummingbird.

My best guess would be a hummingbird moth (Genus Hemaris) James.

That's pretty cool, I've never actually seen one!

We have those down here to James and it's just some kind of nectar hungry moth.
We call them Hummers after the birds which we feed.

Ours are more pink than your orange red ones.

Thanks everyone for the help. Googled and learned all about them. Never even knew of their existence before. Thanks Bob, good camera, lousy photographer. These cam out nice though.
