My business webs site has gone down and because the program is so old ( its still on windows XP) i have had to start again.
Bob will know what i mean :) i have to now upload over 2000 pictures individually as the old format does not conform to the latest windows 10 progs.
good bye model bench for a week or two :-(

Oh no! Hate that. Paddy you ever thought about cloud hosting? Since we switched over to Dreamhost we have had far better uptimes than our previous host. We're running a VPS also but website like yours could run on shared services just fine.

Yes thanks Bob i am building the new site on a free program on C/panel which is remote and presumably cloud.
Once i have it on a modern platform it will be safe and updated daily.

XP?

Welcome to the 21st Century! Good on you that you could keep a site going for that long on software THAT old. You are my hero!

Barney...it would still be going if my hosting Company didn't constantly update their servers :). They say there is not much call to make them backward compatible with XP...So than means my copy of windows 95 is redundant i think.
Anyway i am building the site up in a cloud now. Exactly as it was, its more an inventory of parts i keep with pictures of each part than a modern website. There are no Carburettors spinning through space or meteor storms of part that magically assemble them selves as they crash through the atmosphere to arrive complete and polished in my store room.....its not that sort of web site so XP was fine :)

good luck, Paddy! I maintain some web sides for local clubs here, so updating ist always a very "welcome" part of that :)

Fortunately the old site is still working, i just cant update it anymore. Its already out of date...

This is just 1 page #37 as it happens

you can see the amount of pictures that i am having to identify and re upload now to a new site on a cloud :)
I am on day 4 now......eyes are out on stalks looking at this screen ... :)

You coding all that yourself or using some canned software? If you're coding it i'm going to volunteer you for the new site admin! :geekon:

There aren't many Men that still speak "Carburetor" these days! Your site is awesome! I imagine Ducks, Bezers and Nortons are still motoring about Europe aplenty.

Its a constant mission to find the parts these days but they are available if you know where to look. There is a strong italian classic bike following in the UK but no one else doing what i do really. My biggest market after the UK is Australia on the opposite side of the world..:)

hi Bob, this is pretty much a plug and play set up, you just format it with your own pictures, text boxes and designs, i did some coding about 20 years ago but it just not necessary for most programs now.

Getting there i decided to do a page a day but thats turned into 2 pages a day as i get more slick, about 10 pages to go.
Running a one man business is a bit like building one of those pyramids out of playing cards. When one thing goes wrong the whole thing collapses :) spending so much time on the website , everything else is falling behind and because i cant update the site i have people buying things that are already sold...And things i cant sell because they are not listed and all the time i fall further and further behind with work people are sending me to do....
Looking on here once a day is keeping me sane :)

I look longingly at my Bentley build..................................one day :)

Wish I could help you Paddy. I got stuff blowing up here also. Our main waterline blew out, the man is here fixing it now. It's not one thing it's another. :bang head

I know how you guys are feeling. Just today after a job, my client had to jumpstart my truck since it was completely dead. So I call the guy that I was supposed to start for to tell him I wasn't going to make it and he said it was fortunate that I wasn't going to make it. He was going to be gone all day! LOL!

Like you said, it all works out eventually.
