Warriors Models "The Scouts" 54mm vignette

Still fighting not having any motivation to model, and a lot of that I think is job related. Once work settles down I think it'll get better.

But this evening I was able to make a small push, and started weathering the base.

Tonight I pulled out a bottle of ProModeller Dark Dirt weathering wash, and started carefully brushing it onto the head. Once it was mostly dry, using some makeup applicator sponges, I gently & carefully started removing the excess. I'm very happy w/ how its going so far. I think I'm going to put down at least one more application of the Dark Dirt, and then in a few places, like the large crack I'm going to put some pure black to add depth & contrast.

I normally use these washes on gloss paint so that its easier to remove, and wont discolor the base coat, but I wanted a more toned down color for the head, and I got pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I think I'd still like it a bit darker, so adding one or two more wash applications will probably help w/ that. Once the washes are done, I'll do some light dry brushing in places to help bring out detail and high lights, and then I'll start on the ground around the head. I think I'm going to try a small application of the dark dirt to the ground and see how it looks before I try doing the whole thing.

Tonight I also started working on filling some of the joint seams on the Tabe beasties, but it wasn't going real well, so instead of forcing it, I just focused on the base.

not bad Adam, I think you're right, some more washes, maybe differnt colors, that head been sticking out of the sand for a long long time. :popcorn

A small update on this one, still having trouble getting motivated to model, and w/ all of the ups & downs and extreme stress over the last few weeks, just havent felt it. I did manage to continue to work on filling the seams on the figures, but unfortunately during the last session, I apparently managed to get the ratio's on my Milliput off, as even after 2 weeks, the putty was still soft enough to scrape off w/ just a fingernail, so I proceeded to go through and scrape off as much of the putty from that session as I could, and I've not sat back down & replaced it.

The other thing I've managed to do is go back & clean up the overspray from painting the head and the wash that got onto the ground portion of the base when I was working on weathering the head.

After the wash:

And after going back and cleaning up the ground:

This update is more for asking for opinions on something I'm thinking about. While my mother in law was in hospice, I went down to the newly opened hobby shop in Kings Mtn, NC and found some Woodland Scenic's static grass flock that I thought might look good on the base, helping to add some more texture & color to the base, but I thought I'd get some opinions on it. The colors are burnt grass & harvest gold, so both are about what you'd expect for brush found in a desert environment, a dark gold color.

I'm not totally sure how much I'd put down, but I was thinking that it could help w/ the look of things. I was figuring at the very least I'd put it at least partially around the base of the head, where you'd think stuff like this would grow, but beyond that I hadnt thought about it. Was also thinking about maybe doing about half or 2/3 of the large open ground area, and have it look like the ground has been trampled down either by the 2 people or their beasties, again to give more detail.
