Vimy Ridge Day

On Easter Sunday 09 April 1917 the Canadian Corps began its assault on Vimy Ridge. By 12 April they had cleared the 7 km ridgeline. It was the first time that Canada's 4 divisions fought as a cohesive formation. Vimy Ridge has come to symbolize national unity and the coming of age of Canada as a nation.

Both of my grandfathers were at Vimy as members of 2 CMR, 3 Cdn Inf Div. For one, it was his last engagement as he spent the remainder of the war recovering from shrapnel wounds to his back, shoulder and jaw.

Yes it is. And I read they may try and make the Vimy memorial the focus on Canadas Birthday this year. Thanks to all who have, are, and will serve. Hodie Non Cros, Per Ardua Ad Astra.
