Ultracast's SS Tiger Tank Commander

Hey Guys,

Here is a figure from Ultracast - 1/35th , It's the SS Tiger Tank Commander. He's sporting the '44 Pea-Dot two piece uniform. He's painted with Vallejo Acrylic & Oil for the Flesh. The Headphones & Throat mics are wired with .01 lead Fishing Fly Tying wire, the Mic box is a nub of Evergreen Styrene Strip. The Turret is from Dragon. The Diamond plate is from Plastuct.

I went for an unconventional display. I didn't think He would look right just on a base. So, despite the name of the figure, He fit well into a Panther Turret.

I'm liking it Eric...that camo doesn't look like it was easy to paint! Clever use of the turret as a base...nicely done!

Nice on Erik,...

Pea dot is a pain to paint but worth doing though

great job

Now that you have uniforms coming along nicely try some shading around the nose area you soon see the difference

Hey Everybody. Thanx for the Kind words.

@MOONIE - Yeah, he looks like he was on the losing end of a Paint ball battle !!

@ANDY - I think it's partially the lighting( too much & It's flooding out the highlights) & partially I went a little light with the Highlights on both figures. I'll also go back &give 'er another swipe of Sepia in the Shadows. Thanx for th Encouragement !

very good work erik!

some constructive critizism: although pink was the waffenfarbe of the armoured branch, the ss didn't use the wehrmacht color coding. himmler himself ordered not to use the branch piping, no matter what ss fighting force and insisted that the waffenfarbe of the ss was white.

of course that was very often ignored by the troops, the tank forces in particular but nontheless i wanted to point that out!

then ... are you going to paint a scharführer or oberscharführer?

LAURA,

Really ? So, th SS shoulder boards were bordered in White ? Aw ... Fudge !! I just looked in th Osprey book - Waffen SS - Men at Armsseries #34. They say it's a silver piping. Either way I screwed th Pooch ! I also wanted him to be an Obersturmfurher. I painted one Silver Diamond on the end of the Shoulder Board. & on the other end is the Button to secure the Board. His color tabs are not visible.

I had a bout of Short Term memory loss ! Thanx for the heads-Up LAURA !!! " Th Hell was I thinking"

But ... It does look pretty good for being hand painted , No ? Are you sure it was supposed to be White ? Osprey notes it as being Silver ( pg 23 Men at Arms #34- Waffen SS) - Wait a minute .. IS it going to be different if it was a Panzer Crew vs. Infantry. I just looked again & Osprey does not note if it's th same Rank for both Branches ? Please tell me it is .

Hmm .. seems like a Touch up session is in Order. I do have plans to set Him in My yet to be built Cyberhobby/Dragon's Befls. Panther G (#6551) ....

Thanx again LAURA !

Laura waffenfarbe is the shoulder patch right ?

Seems like Ive also balls my bloke on the well GB

So recon and cavalry would have the white piping and not yellow or I am reading this totally wrong ?

Sorry Erik, to interject on your thread

I was going to mention that you should outline the buttons to make them pop out a bit more

Sorry mate please tell me to sling my hook if you think Im being too picky

white piping, silver piping ... in that scale the difference is too little to be seen.

i have some waffen-ss collar patches and believe me, the silver is that mat that it could very well go as white!

if you want to make him a obersturmführer you should paint the shoulderboards completely white and with one golden star (not sure if the ss used silver stars or golden stars ... i think i read something about that somewhere, sometime!) ... at the moment he's either a scharführer or oberscharführer with the star missing!

sorry for being a pain in the ass but i think that superior work sould be nothing less than perfect and correct in all aspects! (read: deserves to be without flaws!)

waffen-ss: white/silver piping - no matter if infantry, grenadier, tank, artillery etc.

BUT the combat troops often disregarded the reichsheini's orders (reichsheini was himmlers nickname, also used by his germanic supersoldiers!)

so in the end piping in branch color is not wrong but against regulations!

Good job on the fig. I really like the pea pattern job. The hands look like they were sculpted a little thick. Was he meant to be wearing gloves? Could just be me.

HEY JERRY - Naw, after looking at the pictures his Hands are a little "thick". On the Box art it does not show him with gloves & I took it to be bare hands. It might look better with Gloves ? They also need to be brushed over one more time. I think some of the Oil was still wet & has be removed ?

ANDY - Naw bro I appreciate the comments. That's not being a nit-picker ! Feel free to interject whenever you feel brother ! That's Why We post our builds - to talk, correct, & enjoy. I particularly like to build as Accurately as possible & enjoy/appreciate it when people point things out. Like this - I missed the shoulder boards color in doing My research. I thought Recon & Calvary had th same color??

LAURA- Himmler's nickname - Reichsheini - translate please ;) , You have some period Collar patches, I'll take your word for it, that's cool by me ! You're not being a Pain in the Ass ! I agree with ya' !! (y)

- www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/S...R.html - LAURA I get a 404 code with this when I was looking.

So, just so that We're straight - His shoulder boards should be trimmed in White or completely White, No Black stripe in the center right ? , with a Gold(?) Diamond/Star. Does location on the Shoulder board matter ? (i.e. is it O.K. to have it on the end of the board, would it be put in the middle?)

Well .... I can't have My Guys disregarding Regulation .. Even if it is administered By Reichsheini !

link works now?

paint them plain white, if you like use pink piping and you cannot go wrong with a golden star, slightly off center or center - both were usual! if there's a divisional sign on the shoulderboard, place the star to the outside ...

Ah !! SoooWeet ! Thanx LAURA. I did Screw up  & Made him an Unterscharfurher ! Great catch LAURA !! :notworthy Thanx for the link !! I wanted to make him an ObersturmFurher

Thanx for the Heads-Up !! :ro:
