The Bench is back up!

Faced with the imminent collapse of my studio's bookshelves, my dear wife consented equipping my man cave with new, custom shelves, incorporating a display case. Before I could stop myself, I suggested it would be a good time to paint the room. Wait- what the heck was I thinking? The results- are shown below.

Here's a shot of the shop in it's glory days- note the sagging, warped IKEA Billies- bad news!

Not a bad layout, but disorganized and cluttered. No lighting in the open display corner.

My happy place! The Me509 can be seen in the focal center of the room. ;)

The 4th corner of the room- all those balsa free-flight planes were built from sheet stock and tissue paper.

Another view of the eye of the storm- it should look familiar, in a way.

Some of my first balsa peanut planes.

Various denizens and artifacts fill the countless nooks and crannies.

Stripped to the bone! The work crew will be here this week to slap on some paint and put in the new shelves- and then it will be time to piece all that stuff back together!

Stay tuned- and cheers!

Re: The Bench is down!

Awesome man cave. Small time pain for long time gain when those snazzy new shelves go up and the new paint makes the room feel bigger. Gotta love it.

Re: The Bench is down!

Thanks, everybody! Yeah, it has a sense of regret, John- but the next round will be better. Moon, my brothers accuse me of using my check-book toolbox whenever we need something done- and at this point my life, they're right! I'm two left feet and all thumbs on this kind of work- and don't have the time to do it. A friend who owns a contracting firm that does high-end kitchen and bathrooms for new and renovated homes is getting done. He has a cabinetry shop that does amazing work- our guest bathroom looks fantastic.

I shudder to think of sorting out all the bricabrac and getting it all back together. Some stuff will have to go- some balsa project not pictured are just scraps now. When we moved from NC I put all the big, damaged ships on the Weber and had a heart-wrenching bonfire!

Re: The Bench is down!

Wow, couple of those shelves look like they are about to let go, even w/o any books on them! Looks like you picked a good time to take care of it.

Cant wait to see the new setup.

Re: The Bench is down!

Looks like you have a very nice spot to work in. New shelves are always exciting aren't they.

Re: The Bench is down!

Oh Man!

That's a relief. When I saw your title, "the Bench is down!" I thought your bench had got knocked over like mine did. I had visions of your kits and parts scattered over a large area. I'm really happy for you that that isn't what your thread topice heading was referring to.

Good luk getting it all finished to your satisfaction.

Cheers

Re: The Bench is down!

Thanks! Oh, I'll be posting more pics- and things are lookin' good!

One "lucky" thing happened during this- I went to move my compressor off it's rubber mat and found a puddle of oil that hadn't quite made it to the carpet- whew! Of course, now I'll be taking that leaky beauty to Coast Airbrush in Anaheim to see if they can fix it. I'm pretty sure it's a Sil-Air by Werther of Italy- anyone familiar with this line? It's very similar to the Iwata Power Jet, right down to the handle on top. It's got a ZEM compressor module, but any markings on the case are long gone from this second-hand unit.

Re: The Bench is down!

We use Sil Air compressors in the sim. Big honking ones, but ....
They are aq good brand from what I have seen.

Re: The Bench is down!

Looking good Chuck, a lot of work to be done I guess. But if it's finished you have a great looking man cave (y)

Keep us posted!

One suggestion; when your new cave is finished I wouldn't overload the shelves with to much books and models, a garage sale would be the thing to do  Just sent me a PM with the place, date and time!!

:yipee :yipee

Actually I'm very interested to see the new paint scheme - is it to be RLM 74 75 76 with mottles ??!!!! :D

Re: The Bench is down!
