Tasca 1/24 Panzer II F Completed.

JSteinman

Master at Arms
Okay campers here we go! I am going to build this kit as one of LASSH's Pz II at Kharkov. The kits decals do not include this as an option, but I may have a trick up my sleeve for this - time will tell.

So first up here is what we get in the box.

Well John I am looking forward to your build of this . I must admit I am a bit torn by the scale of it but I am sure there will be some figures and extras available soon .

Build Begins

Okay here we go!

first off I have to say I disagree with what I have been reading about this kit re: its just like a 1/35 kit detail wise. Sorry but no way, just one look at the suspention parts and this is obvious. Since I just finished Tamiya's New tool Pz II C, I can easily say this is way more detailed! I tend not to follow construction order from the directions, so you will see me hop around a tad.

Lower hull is made up from six flat pieces, no issues with fit or alignment.

Roadwheels are nice, but are missing the raised serial numbers, return rollers have no makers marks - this is a dissapointment.

Hull details are nicely done.

Nothing missing here - and much better than 1/35 kits available.

Stay-tuned!

Re:Tasca 1/24 Panzer II F

Happy update time!

I have added some missing welds to the final driver cover flanges and lower front plate using 0.10 round styrene rod and textured with Tamiya extra thin cement and an x-acto knife.

John,
I also have this kit on the bench and it's been good so far! I'm at the tracks now and they are a bit different using the pin method for assembly.

John,

Some places do look like they could have gine further in the detailing department but it still looks great.

Hey Dan,

Any progress photos of yours?

Regards,

Some more progress pics. Really adding a lot of missing weld detail. I have to dig out the Tamiya Pz II, when I do I will post up some comparison shots.

I'm getting in on this a little late, but it is really looking great. I will keep a closer watch on your build.

Very interesting build, the welds look fantastic! Will follow this build closely!

Smokin' in the boyz room

I have jumped ahead and added the fenders, as the fender supports that are molded onto the hull kept getting bent. This was just a diversion as my next step was the detailing of the armored smoke candle box. First up I made five candles from styrene tube, a punched disk and a Grandt Line rivet. Using a round dental lab bur I hollowed out the end of a rod, I then punched a disk to fit into the ID of the tube leaving a small lip. To this I added the rivet. These are then cemented into the housing, part A31. I drilled out the screw heads on the part A12 as there were no slots and added slotted styrene rods. I then made the activating arm, spring and lever from strip styrene, styrene rod and a stainless steel spring that I wound using 0.007 wire. I had to add to the rear of the box with strip styrene to match my references. Before gluing it all in place I had to drill a small hole in the rear plate for the activating rod to slide into. Enjoy!
