Tamiya's 1/35th Dragon Wagon

At the risk of hijacking Laurences' thread, I got a question. Why Chain drive? Why did they not just use the same drive axle direct to the wheels instead of having another point of failure in the drivetrain?

No idea why. Seems to be a bit of a weird choice but it looks good on a model :D
There are oil drips too, they even said that a Dragon never has to worry about finding the way back, all they have to do is follow the oil leak :drinks

I'm just speculating Here but I would think this axle design would have more articulation than a dual-drive ( 2 differential's) line model ..... the old John Deere out in the field has this type of drive via chains off the rear axles, by attaching some sprockets on them .... that to go to the pea planter ...... so if the tractor was being used as a winching drive for dragging something up or lifting something ..... neutral could become a power take-off ...... :eek:ldguy

From what I could find, it's a ground clearance thing, coupled with reliability. :idonno

Great work. Laurence (as always) (y)

Thanks guys. Mike the link you sent me talked about ground clearance and the ease of repair, fixing a broken chain is a lot easier than fixing a busted differential.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. The monster is now on the table at the first competition for 2015.
Will take some photos and post them here.

In terms of chains vs differential, I think it has to do with ground clearance, ease of repairs and all that. David Doyle has a great book about them dragons, I'll have a look and see what's in it.
