Tamiya's 1/35th Dragon Wagon

Thank you Gentlemen, much appreciated, as always :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Been a long time, but I wanted to make some more significant progress before I posted an update.

Here we go ... tractor is almost done. Almost. Still bits and pieces to be done, added, scratched and so on. Chains, lights, tools, tarps and all sorts. The winch assembly is nearly there. I still need to attach the bracket to the vertical exhaust, touch-ups, weathering but, cut a long story short, here's the photos:

Forgot to mention ... the camo net on top has been completely redone. The kit has a piece of plastic that you're supposed to glue on the roof and that's it. It's a let down on an otherwise excellent kit, I decided to do something about it. Drilled holes and made the handles using steel wire, the original camo net was wrapped in Verlinden's camo net (hessian-like texture) and placed on the roof, then the straps and buckles made from scratch, using masking tape and copper wire. Not sure if I love the way it looks, but it's a lot better than not doing it. A folded tarp will also be placed there, the machine gun is WIP but should be ready soon.

Thanks for looking,

Laurence

very Nice work Laurence

Big project and the camo net looks great.

Michael

Cheers Mike, your monster of a thing is pretty awesome, never built one of those before, but it looks like they are pretty similar in size and complexity.

You taking that baby to IPMS in June?

One month since the last update ...getting lazy here .... :smack

Anyway, this is nearly finished. Small finishing touches on the tractor, trailer requires a bit more work, then the load on the trailer.

The cannon is 99% done, the two wheeled trailer in DAK colour needs a paint job and the Me 262 engine needs weathering and last minute finishing touches.

The chains at the rear gave me grief. The kit suggests a simple chain to chassis, that's it. Not a good job. Research and all that led to scratching a turnbuckle that cannot be seen, but I will take better photos.

Bearing in mind all of the above, I would really like to know the opinion that you guys have on this thing.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I think it looks just superb, but I would be looking at dirtying-up the 262 motor a little more (not too much) and perhaps partially covering it with an 'oily' tarp... but, as ever, it's your project, and I know that I couldn't have done what you've done with it so far.

Ian.

Agreed,

First, outstanding job, colors are great. Fine job and I'd be proud to have that on my shelf just as it is.

Now for some nitpickin'. The cargo is not secure enough on the bed. You have a gun that looks like it's run up the ramp a bit but no chocks under the wheels and I don't see any tiedown or chains securing it. Same with the trailer. Get some chains on that thing to keep it from shifting around.

The Jet motor, I think I would cut away all the flarings crate it, with maybe the top of the crate open so you can see what's in there. Right now it looks like a model part placed on a pallet. Maybe leave the cone sticking out the box to make it look interesting.

Fantastic work Laurence. :drinks

Thanks James,Luiz, Terry, Willem, compliments are always nice :D

Ian and MP - when I posted, didn't have much time to write, apologies for that but what you both said is spot on.

Few clarifications here:
- nothing is secured to the trailer yet because I am still not 100% sure of what I want to put on it. All those three things look like they would be hard to find at the same place, although not impossible. I would have thought that an AA gun and the jet engine would make more sense to be together. And a Luftwaffe car or similar.

- the engine in the photo is freshly painted (2-3 hours old that is). Weathering will be added. I thought of a camo net on top and / or a tarp covering parts of it. Oily of course :D
- the planks under the engine are a temporary thing. At first I wanted both engines on the trailer, but one of them turned out a total mess, wouldn't dare display it.

I am still flirting with the idea of putting a tank on it and the gun / engine, will see how it all works out today / tonight. It must be ready though so a decision better be made soon.

Thanks again

Man - O - Man I missed this one .... Great Job so far what else can I say ..... Laurence ..... I will be looking in on this to see what you come up with on the load ..... excellent build so far ..... I'll bet there are some tie down boomers & chains & what not somewhere's on the net ..... :popcorn
