Tamiya's 1/35th Dragon Wagon

White_Wolf

Master at Arms
This is the biggest thing I have ever started so far. B)

As you all know it's a monster of a thing so much to do and it definitely requires a lot of planning. Simply following the instructions won't cut it, if you want it weathered. Once things are in place, good luck trying to give it a wash and whatever else needs doing. So, I am thinking three times before I glue something.

First things first, the tractor - pic below

Then, the cabin. All the bits and pieces in place, on the roof (interior) and sides. Sorry for the angles, I am still to set up my photo area properly. I have also done the rear wall of the cabin but forgot to take a photo of it :smack

Onto the trailer - pic below

The reason why I gave all these things a coat of paint is that I need to have them weathered (at least a wash) prior to moving forward.

Then I started adding some details - although it's a Tamiya kit, it still lacks things that would make it more interesting. These massive things had some interesting features - no front brakes to avoid the "nose dive" effect, rear traction, wheels driven by chains and having oil dripping constantly. There is an oil tank in the kit, but not much else, so I have added the valves and the small pipes. Two on each side.

As I want to show the rear of the tractor, the brakes need some detailing, so I added the hoses and the two clamps on the rear axle.

I started with the tires - 19 of them :woohoo: they all got a Vallejo primer and a Vallejo Dark Rubber paint. Weathering will follow shortly

Only 3 tires showing there, but they are all done, promise

My fellow Aussie here Ian Hill - your legendary dio is an inspiration for this thing, cheers for that mate :drinks

Thanks for watching,

Laurence

:rotf

Is this a good time to say that it will be part of a diorama that will include quite a few things?

:frantic

Will definitely be watching with much interest. I've had this kit for several years but haven't ever started it, b/c of the lack of space of the finished model.

I'm so on-board for this ride, that I've changed my font colour to 'olive' !!. Laurence, do you have a photo or a link to Ian's build ?, would be nice to see that too.

Guessing this will be a long-term project, eh ??

Ian.

Thank you Gents, appreciate it :notworthy

Link to Ian Hill's amazing work

It's in The Masters - Ian Hill section.

It will take a while to complete this project, still trying to find reference photos that would put all the bits and pieces together. Not 100% sure about the layout and scenery either, or even dimensions. Still to be decided I suppose .....working on it :soldier

Thanks Adam, that is a really detailed piece of work. Unfortunately it's too late for the chains, flirting with the idea of having the covers though.

Awesome stuff this 3D Printing, definitely interested in learning more about it. (y)

I wonder if anyone is making a 1:8 scale chain for a Harley..:hmmm

Laurence I picked up a set of track tensioners / screwjack, for my sherman a while back. Really nice stuff they coming out with. I got mine from Shapeways.com

Bob, w/ the right info, I'm sure I could create a 3D model for you that could be printed by Shapeways or C2D.

More stuff done - weathering on the tractor chassis, cabin and trailer
These are various stages of weathering. Everything received the raw umber wash, the lighter base colour , the Humbrol Matt 72 and raw umber pin wash at different stages in the pics below.
