Tamiya M42 Duster

I was asked to show some of my armor builds. This is my Viet Nam diorama of two soldiers taking a break from whatever they were doing. While weathering this model I would consult with a member of my modeling group who had served on one of these. I would show him and he would say "keep going. Not dirty enough". After months of meetings and "keep going"s he finally said "perfect". He said that dirt got into everything including your mouth, ears, and food. Hope you like it!

You did a really nice job with this Tamiya Duster. Turned out top notch for a kit from the 1970s. I like that you have the hatches open showing the interior. Did you scratch build the interior or did you use the Verlinden interior set? I built two AFV Club Dusters when I was working at the Air Defense Artillery museum and used the Verlinden interior on both. Bad thing was that the first interior kit I got did not include the instructions so I had to go to the Duster we had on exhibit and match up resin parts to what I was looking at on the actual vehicle. The second one I built about a year later included the instructions which made it go a lot quicker.

Thank you!!! The only thing I scratch built on the tank was the antenna. I had the interior kits purchased separately but I don't remember the brand. I had a blast tricking this thing out. I had never built a diorama before this one. I was fortunate to have a fellow modeler who served on one and could advise on the weathering!

My first night at Cu Chi and the dusters opened up on the bunker line. Very loud with bright flashes of light. It was kinda cool while at the same time scarry as I was a new guy in country. You have done a really great job!! Gary S.
