T-64

Well been home sick last couple of days. Decided to break the monotony with a Trumpeter T-64 I got from Saul a while back. So I have the hull almost all done and the glacis plate finished. Working on the engine deck.

And a dry fit to see how it will look. I need to find some Trumpeter working tracks for it as I hate link and length.

Maybe if I can get it finished nice enough in the next 3 weeks I can enter it in our club contest.

Bit more before bed last night.

Just have to add log to hull and its done. Wont do that though until my new tracks arrive. Just noticed though that the PE for the log to hull connection are not called out in the instructions. Only major mistake I think I have seen so far. I have an idea what goes where, just need to figure out how to bend it. Then its working on the turret.

Not knowing very much at all about Soviet era AFV's, but this looks like the perfect intermediate step between the T62 and T72, would that be correct or was it one of those 'export only' types ??

The T-64 is a new design. The T-62 was the forerunner of the T-72. Because of the Gulf Wars and the losses incurred the T-72 was renamed the T-90 and upgraded a few more times. The T-64 was the forerunner of the T-80. The T-64 was revolutionary in its design and was around 34 tons and able to defeat any of the 50 ton class allied tanks of the time. After a number of teething problems it ended up being very good. It was never exported. The next T-64 I do will have Echelons new decals for a captured rebel tank in the Ukraine when Echelon releases the set. Next Russian piece I will do is the Trumpeter Scud C which I just ordered.
