St. Patrick's Day Road Trip

Iron Mike

Master At Arms And Resident Curmudgeon
Howdy All! The boys from the S.O.B. Model Club hit the road at O Dark Thirty to descend on the first annual Catawba Valley Scale Modelers Spring Contest and Swap Meet in Statesville, NC. Upon arrival, the parking lot was full and the vendor tables were jammed! Great deals were found, old friends were seen and Chris won the first raffle prize of the day! The facility was so full, we decided to bug out early, so no pix of models.

I did take a few shots of some hardware standing guard over the grounds.

OBO was the phrase of the day, we all made out like bandits!! We hit two other hobby shops on the way home and had a great lunch on the patio at the Hickory Tavern. :drinks :dance

I'm certain there will be more photos from this event as the troops arrive home.

Nearly all MP's. I'm thinking there will be a Harley Davidson bolted to the deck of this giant PT boat soon !

Cheers, Christian B)

I'm a sucker for peer pressure. Mike tapped me on the shoulder and told me to look at the big PT boat, I said I don't have enough money and he was there to lend a hand...what a friend! I overed him 40% interest in the PT Boat, he can build the top and I do the bottom but he just wanted his money back so, it's all mine.

Got an all metal kit I'll post pictures of later this weekend, may need help IDing it.

Awesome stuff guys. Looks like you made out okay. Kind of a shame the missile is planted instead of on a hard stand of some type. Man I gotta come and visit some day.
James

Peer pressure! Ha!

Yep, James! That would be WAY cool for you to come visit!! (y) (y)

The vendors at this show were SERIOUS about selling stuff, I bought that Wespe and a Verlinden driver's compartment for $15 less than asking price at about 9:15AM! Bob got the big deal on the PT boat, Chris got the raffle prize and then we got free T shirts at lunch! :eek:hyeah

Dang, definitely hate I missed that! So how long did you guys stay at the show? And did you hit Glenn's? Wasnt sure since I never heard from ya.

Looks like you guys had a great time!
Free T-shirts at lunch?...Makes me wonder what you had to do for that!

Nice pictures by the way, thanks for sharing,Mike!

Greetings,Ron.

Adam sorry you couldn't make it, we weren't there long. The VFW hall wasn't really large and with all us fat fellas in there, it filled up real fast.

Ron the little gal who waited on us was hawkin' the tee shirts, I figured I best stay out of it or I'd cause trouble talking tee shirts and young collage cuties...Besides, I know they didn't have my size!

Ron, we had a great time. I even had a Stella while thinking you probably would have enjoyed one.

James, wish you could make it sometimes. Great fun for sure.

Adam , hate you had to miss it. We had a good time ! :fencing

Cheers, Christian B)

Looks like it was a blast- though there is no such thing as a free t shirt when you walk off with a few bucks worth of loot. lol Good day fellas! :yipee

The T shirt had nothing to do with the loot. It was all about eating lunch at the Hickory tavern. :fencing .

Cheers, Chritian B)

Dang! I forgot to mention that two Gaston County Model Builders members took home awards, Roger Woods with his Spirit of St Louis and Dave Klocker took two, one for his Jeep and the other for a Panzer III that suffered damage on the way home. Congrats, guys!! :notworthy
