Hi,
Now it's time to show you second from pair of model torn from the past and the depths of the family home basement. It's Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb (EP312) - personal aircraft of Wing Commander Dereck (Bill) Kain, 66 RAF Wing, Edku airbase, Egypt, May 1944.
Historical background
D. Kain start service in RAF in 1937 in 73 Squadron. In 1937 and 1938 he was a one of the pilots who were flight in squadron acrobatic team. He fight over France in 1940 and in Battle of Brittan. After it he was moved to 127 Squadron RAF and relocated on MTO. Soon squadron was the size of a Wing, and had sections based in Nicosia (Cyprus), Haifa (Egypt), St Jean (Palestine) and Beirut (Syria) and HQ base at Haifa. In 1944 he was responsible for flight check of repair aircraft and.... using special prepared Spitfires to intercept Germans high altitude recon aircraft - Ju-86P.
Model
This model I built 20 years ago from set issued by Hobbycraft. Spitfire originally had the only one right marks (from my point of view ) RF-A of 303 Polish "Kosciuszko" Squadron (one of version provided by the manufacturer). Model even for the Hobbycraft standard is crude - convex lines on the wings, giant rivets, cracks and defects, poor fit and decals on Novo level ... Well, twenty years ago I was glad that I have it. Excluding Abukir filter I did not add or improve anything in the model. Painting made using airbrush and Agama acrylics. Wash and soiling made using MiG's Neutral Wash and Dark Wash, decals is a mix of leavings from old decals sets for other models (traditionally put with the support of Mr. Mark Softer).
