Chris I believe it is varnish.
Hope to leather up the seats tomorrow and then get seat belt in. Looks almost like I can button up the fuse soon.

Don't know how I missed the start of this - apologies, James - Looking very good so far, friend, if I had the skills for bracing & turnbuckles and the like, this would be a close second on my WWI bucket list, just behind the Fokker DVII.
