How do you guys over there feel about the enormous outlay of money for this celebration, could it had been better spent in these tough economic times ? Or does national pride over the monarchy and your country make it worth the great cost.

Understand I have no dog in this hunt, but it has been mentioned in the media and I was just wondering what the feeling was over there.

It is without doubt difficault to understand unless you are right involved in it, for example

Being British and having a Monarch for me the cost is irrespective because the absolute national pride it produced within Britain was priceless

You cant do that in the USA because the head of state will always be a politician and as we see on the TV each day people vying for that position make themselves out to be a bit foolish at times

The monarchy is head of state regardless of politics

So in essence to answer the question again

The cost doesnt matter at times like this

I suppose that what makes Bitiain Great !

She is our regent. The Royals have done more in their lifetime than any politician I know of combined. Apart from that I would say the price is irrelevant and the pride Exceptional. Long Live the Queen.

I've read that someone has introduced legislation in Parliament, several times now, with the intent to abolish the Monarchy, it never makes it out of second reading so I guess that sums up the support the Royals have.

How much does our Presidents spend on Inuguration parties?? How about all vacations they take. Not to mention golf twice a week. I think it's best if we leave politics out of this discussion. The British people can spend their money any damn way they want and I sure as hell don't want them telling us how to spend ours. So let's not refight the revolution we already got that one.

Rant over :D

'dem sound like Yankee places to me...

I hear yah T,those subjects have been sore points here as well.austerity for everybody except the politicians .

I definitely was not trying to stir the pot or tell the British how to spend their money, just a little discussion that we grown men I'm sure can handle without going overboard
