RFM Panzer III J

This is Rye Field Models new Panzer III J. Nothing too special when it comes to detail with this kit. I wanted to try and use what was available with the kit and update set. I did replace the tools brackets with MJ Miniature 3D printed ones. They are very nice and easy to use, but I still prefer Aber tool brackets. The rear tow brackets are 3D printed and included with the RFM Pz III J update set along with the fire extinguisher. They are really nice and I bought a few sets to use on future Pz III or Stug projects. All the photoetch is either included with the kit or the update set. The only brass I made was the rear hinges on the left front tool box. It does come in photoetch like the side box, but didn’t look right to me, so I just detailed the plastic one. I spun my own tow cable and added chains to the rear shackles. The tow cable isn’t great, but it looks fine to me. I also added the conduit wires and brackets on the front of the fenders. I’ll save the wiring for the next Panzer III build. There was a huge gap at the base of the mantlet sleeve and it had to be built up with Tamiya putty and blended in. Other then that the kit is outstanding. It is better in some ways then a Dragon Panzer III and not so much in others. Ironically, I think the Dragon Panzer III was used to make some of these moldings, as some parts (i.e. the turret basket) are identical along with all the same imperfections. The workable tracks are nice but the track pins are not very good in my opinion so I went with ModelKasten ones. I will use the kit tracks on a future project. All in all, I loved this kit and bought myself another one and plan on purchasing the full interior kit when it’s released in Asia in January. I do also plan on painting it and it’s in the queue, behind the other 60+ kits that need paint. Thanks for looking and all critiques and comments are appreciated. Do you see where it says full image? I find threads easier to read if the author uses this button rather than thumbnails...

If someone uses thumbnails, you can usually click on the photo for a larger image.

That Mk3 is a beautiful build, so crisp and clean! The opposite of how mine always seem to go.

Also, the thumbnails make for a quicker page load (we have a very slow internet speed down here, way slower than anywhere else). The large images take so long that I have to leave the page and go and do something else while I wait. I can just click on the thumbs to see them at full size - perfect!

Very nice. I have one of these in my basket at a shop I frequent. Nice to know more before I buy. What a beauty clean build Love it.
