Possibly my new obsession...

Mechanically it sounds like you are on top of it. Does the brush hog hit the tires when it swings side to side? If the brush hog does not hit the tires, let it be. The dash is red, but the rest us blue. Interesting. I ran about 1000 iterations on a coolaticity simulator. Your tractor came in with a cool factor of about 87.9..

How did the old spark plugs look? Was there carbon build up? Modelers Alliance and tractor forum.
They actually weren't to bad. Just the completely wrong plugs...both kinds.

Always wondered what this thing was for on the property. A boom lift. Like it was made for this tractor. It actually raises pretty high

Idk. Champion spark plugs weren't even in the mix at ALL of the parts stores I went to. Three sets of cross reference plugs didn't work. I had had enough. Finally found a parts store, with an old guy, that smelled of BO mixed with a hint of motor oil (I new I was in the right place then) said autolite 437 for your tractor sir. Thank God there's still some of old these guys alive!

Yep, they're treasures and fading fast, no matter what he smelled like, HA!:rotf Like old TV repairmen, gone! Did ya grab a few extra plug for 10yrs down the road, ya never know.

I got the last 4 they had. I guess it'll be having to order online in the future.

I have never really understood why champion plugs are so temperamental. There are motorcycle where they are the only plugs that work and others where they dont work at all. I did some tests once and concluded it was lower powered ignition systems that worked better with them so points and condensers and not electronic which sort of made some sense. Now i have reached that stage of life where i will never know and i dont care :) 🤣

Time was, (says the old, experienced guy with a little better personal hygiene) The Champion spark plug company serviced AMC, Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth products and did so proficiently. Champion had an ad campaign with a photo of James Dean putting their plugs in a Porsche 356 Speedster (the car he died driving) that was monstrously popular, even though no German or air-cooled engine should ever run a Champion plug. Each American auto maker had a proprietary spark plug manufacturer and they all branched out into the aftermarket.

Your 8N will like the Autolite plugs. I use them in all my implements.

For the record, I am past the age where I worry over much about "being in trouble" over what I say outloud.

The tractor likes the autolites. To me, it's insane how 3 cross referenced plugs that were so wrong were pushed on me. My god, one of those spark plugs had a 1/4" longer thread than what's supposed to be in it. I looked at the counter clerk and said "REALLY"!

I've replaced the spark plugs. Removed and cleaned the oil bath air cleaner (that's a fascinating piece of hardware) Fixed the stuck carburetor float, re-bent the gas line from the sediment bowl to the carb. These are gravity fed engines and somebody had an up hill bend in the line. The carb's main needle valve was turned way. Set it back to 2 turns out. I adjusted the timing. I suspect the old distributor is tired so I have a new one on the way. The one in it is a Prestolite, not original to the 1951 Ford.
The engine has smoothed out and doesn't backfire.
I think the tractor is ready to work, till something breaks.
