Some PE these days has a textured finish, for example the floor in my Stuka pe has textured areas to replicate non slip.

My question is, do you spray such a light coat on these that the texture shows through or is this textured surface just artistic licence thats lost once painted ?

Well, most prob I would try not to loose it but if it's not possible or I'm just not able to, then ist good to know it is there somewhere under primer an color, isn't it.

Are you really going to see the texture of the floor in a stuka once it's done? I don't think you have that heavy of a hand painting do you Paddy?

The floor of the Stuka is an example :) its on the surface of some radio boxes and even the seat cushions .........

DSC_2010.JPG I suppose this might show up with a wash after painting. you might think this is a rather nice log basket for a wood fire however its actually the gunners seat :)

That surface detailing will show just fine Paddy. Of course some wash and dry brush work will be needed to bring it out properly. A normal airbrush coat is not all that thick (depending on the coverage of the paint), I believe that color should be RLM66 which is a black grey. The Testors brand seemed to cover fairly well without needing a primer. Almost any black grey will probably fit the bill for the flooring. Never fear Paddy it will work and look good.

Yes i wondered about going up a shade to allow for scale as the cockpit is full of electrical boxes that are black and the side walls grey black. might need a little more contrast ?

I use a very thin black wash with a lighter grey dry brush. Not too much lighter say a medium gray for a highlight. Then instead of silver or aluminum for wear use a light gray. Though some things need to have a little silver/aluminum done to show new wear. Old wear tends to gray out a little.
