Okay trying with more lighting. The dirt wash I started looks very subdued in real life. Just as the hi-lights do. With this extra lighting it looks really dirty. Oh well.

I think most of the weathering is done. Have to finish the tracks. Darned hard when my hand keeps going numb. But I'll get it done. I think the left side might need a bit more dirt.
Have to find that darned road wheel too. AWOL when I'm almost done is unacceptable. Critiques kindly requested.

Okay so while I waited for my Fruil tracks to build themselves I grabbed another kit off the shelf and got started this evening. Well after a bit I came to the realization I was deluding myself thinking the tracks would self assemble and so hunched down and got 1 side completed. Tomorrow I will do the other side and then start the painting and weathering of the tracks so I can add them. As for the other kit, well when I get some pics taken you'll see a hull of a Stug IIIG is almost done. Seems eerily familiar to the last tank

Okay these pictures look really stark. Looks better for real. Have some more weathering to do and a few more touch ups. First time using blacken it. Dont like it. Have to finish weathering the tracks. Got some rubber on the insides where the road wheels roll. Comments critiques etc.

James the panzer is coming along well. I have never used the blacken it stuff before so I can't really explain the brightness of the tracks, but maybe they need to soak longer. You are right I think the tracks are too bright. They ought to have a more steel color. I like the mud and dirt on the wheels and lower hull. The upper hull looks ok, but could use a little more dust in the nooks and crannies. I would probably add some chipping here and there. Not too much just enough to give it climbed on look. All in all the tank is looking pretty good.

James, except for the tracks, which are easily fixable, it looks good! I always paint metal tracks black, then wash them heavily in burnt sienna artists oils. It gives them a rusty look. Then you can sand the extruded portions of the track and reveal the metal as which would be seen on the real thing. I doubt that you could discern the rubber on tracks that weathered anyway. In time, vehicles begin to take the colors of the terrain they are in and metal tracks always rust.
Please understand this is constructive advice, not criticism. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with the model at all! just keep going and you will get it right. My best models are those that when finished, have something or other that just doesn't look quite right. I just keep fiddling with it till it looks right!
