Not another Sherman!

I know, I know, stop the presses, I built something other than a Sherman.

This is AFV Clubs Shot Kal circa 1973. This is a personal favorite of mine as:

#1 Im Jewish.

#2 This is one bad mojo of a tank.

Paint is MM Acryl "Israeli Sand Gray" (think Vallejo "Khaki") with oils for weathering and chipping. This one's going on a rocky base with a crew.

I have one of the AFV Club S'hot 1967 kits and 2 of the AFV Club S'hot 1973 kits. I hope to do one of the 1973 ones as Kalahani's tank. I heard that AFV Club might be releasing a 1982 version too. That'd be great.

Oh she's a Centurian through and through. The IDF chose wisely when they purchased these.

The crew is a resin aftermarket set that I super detailed a bit with mikes and cords made from 28 ga wire. All the paint is MM Acryl, weathered with oils. I'm planning a rocky desert base for this, so stay tuned.

Every photo I've seen of the Golan is remarkably similar to where I live. Vegetation with lots and lots of rock. Lots of rock. Did I mention it is a very rocky area? The Golan? and where I live? Both are desert with rock? I'm sure I mentioned it once.

I found some Woodland Scenics rock molds on clearence, as well as some Hydrocal. That and some Durhams Water Putty should fit the bill.

Oh, and rock, from my backyard.......................

The Golan is murder on the running gear of AFVs. I recently saw, on another forum, some images of the road wheels of A Golan Centurion and there is hardly any rubber left on the tires on the road wheels.

I have, amongst other books, DUEL FOR THE GOLAN written by Jerry Asher with Eric Hammel. This and others has convinced me to try and build Kahalani's 1973 Shot KAL. Fortunately I have an old Modelcraft Centurion Mk III turret that can be easily corrected for Kahalani's tank. Assuch I'm watching any IDF Centurion builds with a lot of interest just for the hints I can gleam for terrain and vehicle finishes. Your model is looking really good.

Are you familiar with the term "Golan Tracks"? Seems the terrain had a tendency to BEND the ends of the links badly enough so as to prevent extraction of the track pin. Crews took to cutting the ends of every sixth track link off to
assist in an attempt to make track maintainence easier. They'd be able to change out six links, as opposed to fighting with one. That's why you typically see two sets of three links stowed on the glacis.
