NASA X-59 QueSST Rollout

NASA unveiled their Low Sonic Boom research aircraft today. It is powered by a F414 engine with afterburner, has F-16 landing gear and cockpit, canopy and ejection system from the T-38. Due to restricted forward vision there is an Enhanced Vision System (EVS) consisting of a 4K camera with a 33 x 19 degree field of view. The expected ground noise is 60 db(A), about 1/1000 of that from current supersonic aircraft. This equates to the sound of a car door closing. If the program is successful, it will open the door for commercial over land supersonic flights. A New York - Los Angeles flight would be reduces to about 3 hrs.
