Hi folks,
On a short vacation I went to 3 museums:the Airborne museum at Oosterbeek [just to the west of Arnhem],
the 44-45 Museum at Arnhem and the museum at the Infanterie SchietKamp at de Harskamp.
Especially the Airborne museum,in the former British HQ ,villa Hartenstein, with sound and light fx, devoted to operation MARKET GARDEN,is very cool.

Just too many pics to comment on,so if you got questions just ask,and I will try to answer you. :coolio

Battle Damage!! That's wild, check out how the armor is rolled back, surely a direct hit.

Still looking, that's an interesting piece with the Oerlikon on some sort of mobile platform. Don't think I've seen that before.

I thought A Bridge Too Far was fairly accurate with their hardware, maybe Battle of the Bulge?

Surely the Germans didn't transport a T34(?) across Europe to engage it in the Western front?

why not? they did the same with french somua s-35 tanks/hotchkiss h-35/38/39 (norway), char b1 bis (balkans), amd panhard 178 (soviet union), several dutch and french recon cars and plenty of other liberated equipment ...

Actually I can see stuff from the East moving West as at one point the Germans were only fighting on one front. Take captured equipment from (arguably)pacified areas and move it to the fighting. But to take a captured peice of armor from one front (which you're getting whipped) and move it to another :idonno

Could be I'm putting too much thought into it. :pilot

don't forget that tanks were assigned to divisions and those have been sent to the west for refreshment - that way a t34 attached to a certain division may have been transferred to the west.

but still i have to admit that i don't have a clue whether there were t34 attached to divisions during market garden or not! (but it's possible!)

The battle damaged gun is the British 17pounder anti-tank cannon,it's also used in the Sherman Firefly tank.
They transported their AT guns by gliders into the Arnhem area.[check out the 'WOT NO ENGINES' pic]

You were close about the Oerlikon,MP.
It's the POLSTEN gun,have a look at this link to see it in modelform,and added information;

Aah yeah,...the case of the 'Beute T34/85'.

Laura is right about the liberated equipment, the Germans used the French Char B1,converted to a Flammpanzer [flamethrowing tank] in the Arnhem/Oosterbeek region.
The T 34 was not being used at Market Garden,it's a former NVA tank,NVA being the post war EastGerman Army.
The Museum 44-45 converted it to look like a WW 2 captured by the Germans used tank. It's more or less a eye-catcher laying in front of the museum,to make people notice that there is something to see.
Museum 44-45 is a private owned museum,it's a bit messy in my opinion...but they do have some interesting stuff.

Greetings,Ron.
