This time I would like to show you one of the two models torn from the past and the depths of the family home basement. The first from this pair is the FW-190A of II/JG.2 commander Lt. Erich Rudorffer, Tunis 1943.
Historical background
My model shows the machine piloted by a second from the best pilots FW-190 on the MTO - Lt. Erich Rudorffer - commander of II/JG.2 from February 1943 . From mid of December 1942 to March 1943 Rudorffer claims 27 victories (only Lt. Buhligen obtained a better result - 46 wins). However Rudoffer keep record of day kills during one flight for FW-190 pilots - February 9, he shot down during few minutes a 8 aircraft (6 P-40 and 2 P-38), a week later (15 February) once again he again show off the high craftsmanship to give 7 wins during the 20 minutes fight.
Model
I built a model based on a set of Matchbox's ... 20 years ago. A few weeks ago my mother suggested me to took from the family home several boxes that contained old models (complete, started and not touched.) Between them were also completed two "pearls" in 1/48 scale: mentioned FW-190A and Spitfire Mk.Vb from Hobbycraft. For exercise I decided to refresh the paintwork on both models without any interference / correction in the main model. Model was bathed in Wamod and painted again, but this time i used airbrush and Agama acrylics and varnish. Wash and smudge made using MIG's Dark Wash and Neutral Wash as well. Decals come from different sets issued by Kagero - of course during application were supported by Mr. Mark Softer.
