M1 Sherman

This will be a Union Steel Castings turret. I have started going through the Son Of Sherman book,and found out these casting symbols are in the correct place.

I am not sure if this will be an Israeli version,or U.S. Army version yet. I have some sprues on the way from Tasca to detail this kit. I do need to order the late style bogies from Tasca as well. I can get them here in the U.S.

I suck at weld beads.

The only casting symbols added so far are on the turret sides.

The .50 holder and shell ejector door have casting symbols on them,so I will go with them.

Looking cool so far. One question though, are the 2 numbers supposed to be different on either side of the turret? I guess another question, how do you know what numbers actually go on a tank?

It's so complicated that no one really pays much attention. Most of the model manufactures don't get them right. There are some who add the manufacturer marks, but who knows about the numbers. Some modelers try to recreate the exact tank in a picture, but that's going over the deep end IMO.

As far as the numbers on both sides of the turret goes........... From what I have read in The Son of Sherman book on this particular plant that made the real life turret,both sides had the same numbers. Of course,I could have read the info wrong. :idonno

I do not even know if the casting symbols on the .50 holder at the rear of the turret are correct,as well as the symbols on the shell ejector are correct.

Hi Zod,

A very clean build so far, compliments ! Curious to see some paint

A question from my side:
I see many modelers making the front super rough with additional putty or something.
Is that only for certain types ?

The rough parts simulate the casting that was on the real tank. Not all parts were cast in a big mold. Turrets,transmission covers/final drive assemblies,and the A1 Sherman hull were cast in big molds.
