Actually I will tell some of the process the columns were done by airbrushing the pigment powderes and the highlights were done the same on the rock.

Hi there.

It looks pretty good. I've been trying to figure out what type of terrain the white area under the rear wheels and beyond is. What sort of terrain was that in real life?

Cheers from Peter

I was attempting to simulate weathered / bleached rock. Evidently it didnt work or people would be able to tell what it is ...... oh well back to the drawing board . the rest is the rocky sandy terrain common to north africa , this type of terrain is what I had in mind when I chipped the vehicle so heavily.
Also I thought about a rough break on the column and was left with a quandry since these columns were constructed from several smaller pieces stacked atop each other and wondered if a rough break would have been better , it would certainly have been easier to do .

I am open to ideas as how to make this type of scene better next time...... please give feedback I like to learn and the people here are good so teach me.

Thanks Robert
Actually I used the kit tires..... they had a rather ugly seam that needed to be cleaned up.All in all it is still a good kit especially for its age.
I may have weathered to heavily , but all of the reference I could find on N.Africa shows a really rough sandy rocky terrain so it was a simple leap to show a well abused vehicle.

by the looks of it it is a good build. the tires always scare me as mine have split a few times in past builds so I think i'll go for the resin ones when I put my scorpian together,

I hope one of your sorces was

LRDG SITE

Hey man , don't sell yourself short on any N. African vehicle build with " too much chipping " .

CHIPPINGNAFRICA.jpg

Most of my LRDG ref. pics. don't have massive chipping , however they don't like like after action/patrol pics. either .
Most look like recently outfitted vehicles and not desert vets .

I like the way you chipped and built your LRDG and and it's a very convincing look !!!

I do agree with Rudi about the column tops , but that is easily fixable with a little more distressing .

Loving the Chev .

What I think I would add to the scene is some grass tussocks , as soon as there is some stability in the desert ie rock , the slightest fissures where deposits of sand will collect will also collect grass seeds which with the stability will germinate :) , look at Glenns third pillar shot and you will see what I mean . :)

Oooh I have my camera back in operation now and I am documenting those pigments for an in depth review , sweet !

Jenny

Thanks everybody for all the good feedback .......I keep looking at that build and think it needs more . I was trying several new things on that one . The paint chips were done with a thinned lacquer paint ...... The chipping worked well like that but it may be too much.
Also I tried airbrushing pigments which you can check out in the demo video on that. But all in all I still think it needs more so it will go back to the bench and a few things will be reworked and then I will re post it .
Everybody this is the best site in the world ......all of the comments on this build prove it. An example of that would be yall dont just tell me what you think you say this is how to fix it and even give good reference pics.
I love this site I am on here several times a day ......... first thing in the morning with coffee last thing before bed and several times in betweeen.
All of you guys and gals rock out loud.........THANKS TO EVERYBODY.
And for my commander in chief I eagerly await the reviews ....... some reviews from amps national have come in , would it be ok to link them?

Hi there.

*IF* you had to force the tires onto the rims be aware that they may split in the future. I sand the inside of the tire and the outside of the rim to prevent the splitting from happening. I have 7 or 8 LRDG Chevy trucks as well as a kit-bashed (Tamiya Ford Quad Gun Tractor/LRDG Chevy) LRDG Ford truck and all have the vinyl tires.

Cheers from Peter

Hello there!

I'm quite new to this militaria modelling thing, but I pretty much concur with Cheyenne: the desert can be cruel to vehicules!

Your LRDG is looking very nice - the environment could be further enhanced with the suggestions made by the guys. I just wish that someday I'll be able to produce such a cool model... Congrats!
