Looking for desert weathering help

I wanted to see if anyone might know of any good online tutorials on how to weather a desert vehicle. I'm having a hell of a time trying to weather my M-1078 FMTV. So far everything I've tried I don't like. Either too much, or not enough contrast, and just doesn't look right at all. I'm about to throw in the towel and not weather it at all.

Thanks! I can already see some stuff I did wrong, that I can do over again. Think I may go back and put down a light mist coat of the base color to help cover up the weathering attempts. Just wish I didnt have to worry about painting over the decals, haha.

Same here. That's the method I'm used to for doing things, and was just having a really hard time w/ the pin wash, I just couldn't seem to make it work and it was taking forever to do it.

I talked to some British and Canadian guys who served in the desert in WW2.They said that tanks and other vehicles would be completley covered in a fine layer of dust such that sometimes the vehicle would appear to be almost white.

Doesn't take long for that to happen either. Also, colours fade rapidly and thus there might not be that much high contrast between colours on awell used in-country vehicle.
