Logistics, Base & Buildings, Updated Feb. 13, 2020

Re:Black Dog Beer Hall SBS

Bob,
As always you amaze us with you knowledge and attention to detail.
Size doesn't matter though   :blink
Wow pretty much sums it up as best as I can.
My only question is what time does the bar open? :silly:
Do we have to bring our own stein, and do they have to be scale? ;)
I love the dogs... When I heard the name, the first thing that popped
into my head, was wouldn't it be great if he had dog gargoyles...
Your mind reading ability is phenomenal. :S
I am always amazed at the ease of what you do and how you make it
look so easy. I know that you have just a few years of experience
(I'm trying to be kind) ;) I just want to know how much room you
have to set aside in the motor home (or is there a trailer that you
pull behind it) for these tiny dio's that you just throw together)? :eek:hmy:
I will never be able to find Grant Line windows again at the train shops,
you have given away the trade secret.
Thank you again for bringing us up to speed on your dio.

Thanks Ian,

I've noticed you have a few of those tricks up your sleeve too! You know, skill and experience! They are handy aren't they?

Re:Logistics, My new Diorama, Base and Buildings.

Bob
your work leaves me in awe every time I see it . The columns are a nice touch I have often looked at them in the craft stores and thought they have a use I just dont know what it is yet.
You have mentioned matt board several times c an you explain this item to me ..... I have a weakness for scratch building it is almost an addiction.

Re:Logistics, My new Diorama, Base and Buildings.

Thank You!

Matt board is a very dense and thin cardboard. It's normal use is for matting on framed photos and paintings. You can buy them in sheets in art stores or framing stores. When veneered to corrugated cardboard the combination is surprisingly strong! I have been using that since my very first diorama. I bind the two with wood or carpenters glue, clamp them together and let dry overnight!

You can then use a straight edge or carpenter's square and cut the shapes, windows, doors, etc. with an ordinary X-acto knife. I have buildings made of that combination from 40 years ago and they still look like the day I built them!

its just great to see those big dios ... dont know what to say ...

Re: Logistics, Base and Buildings.

As I haven't posted on this thread for awhile, here is the reason. I am moving along on the 46 vehicles that will be in the diorama. I still have to build the rest of the rail gun, another Trolley, another ambulance, (German), a wrecked PZ IV and 5 more Shermans.

Here they are so far in various stages of completion.

My plan is to finish all the vehicles and all the figures, then complete each building and put it all together. It should live up to it's name, Logistics!

Re: Logistics, Base and Buildings.

And the Leopold is going to be up in this somewhere?? Man I don't think this is going to fit my garage... :mpup

Re: Logistics, Base and Buildings.

This stuff is so cool, it gives me a headache!! (y)

That has always been the plan from day one.

A K5E, (Not Leopold), the same series, will be behind the locomotive and tender. I checked before I designed the base. It fits. See, right behind the tender, you can see one of the two trucks of the rail gun. A huge section of the canopy will be crashed on top of the gun. It will look, (I hope), very dramatic and will also allow a great view of the Sherman column and the primary focus of the diorama, the salute to Patton from Abrams which is near the statue..
