Lasik surgery?

Has anyone ever had Lasik surgery done? Or know anyone that has had it done? I have been giving it some thought.

My wife and I had it done a couple of years ago- it worked really well for us. I was -950- really quite blind without corrective lenses. Now I see 20/25. I do use reading glasses, but often read the paper without 'em. AMAZING!! I model with reading glasses and an optivisor. No more contacts, no more coke-bottle glasses. It pays to get the best surgeon you can.

Thanks for the reply Chuckw. I think building models and driving big rig have taken their toll on my eyes.

It's something I want very badly but am not in a position to afford it at the moment. I've already decided that when/if I have it done, I'm going to go w/ the Wavefront customized procedure. It allows for a procedure that's customized to the individual eye, no canned procedure for a given vision range. The only problem is its a lot more expensive, but the results are much better, last longer, and from what I've read/heard it also appears to have fewer complications.

Thanks for the reply Adam. I know I have to check to see how much,if any insurance will cover, and how many days I will have to be off work.

The nice thing is a lot of vision plans now cover at least a part of the procedure.

As for down time, there is almost none. Should be able to go back to work the next day. Since you're an on the road driver you might have to wear darker sunglasses for a few days while it heals but I would think that would be it.

It may also be part of DOT law after surgery that I may have to be down for a certain time. More than likely I would have to get another DOT physical done after the surgery.

I would not count on that .

My wife had lasiK several years ago and she definitely had several days afterwards where darkness was her best friend. :coolio No matter what the doctor tells you .

Definitely could not have been driving for hours on end.

Still a great procedure since her vision was so poor prior the procedure.

Cheers, Christian B)

Seems like someone told me that they had some issues with night driving after having Lasik. Not fully sure on that, but the problem was something about oncoming headlights just really blinded them. IIRC it took quite a while for that to rectify.

Since we are talking about eyes and vision here, I started taking some vitamins about 3 weeks ago and it seems to be having a positive effect. What I have been taking has been Bausch + Lomb PreserVision AREDS 2. Got them at Walgreens and am supposed to take one twice a day. I usually only remember in the morning and "maybe" the second one 2 or 3 times a week.

Vision in my left eye ( my dominant eye ) "seems" to be a little brighter and crisper as if the contrast were bumped up a bit. My right eye is the one with the most fiddely things going on and those seem to be fading. I should know more by the time I finish the bottle of 60.

I may look into those vitamins. I may not even be a candidate for the surgery. I will have to go through a pre-exam first I guess.
