Just finished designing a new model kit

Figured I'd share w/ you guys a kit I just got done designing for a client.

The subject is a WWI German Type R Zeppelin, specifically L33, which was lost in an attack on England in 1918.

I modeled it using Solidworks and line drawings provided by the customer. It took approximately 6 months to complete, which unfortunately is a lot longer than it should have, but it proved to be substantially more difficult than I expected.

Here's an overall shot of the whole thing.

This is the main control gondola where the captain ran the show.

There were two mid-ship engine gondola's, one located on each side.

And then this is the rear gondola. Besides containing 3 engines, I I think it also had a backup control system in it, in case something happened to the control gondola at hte bow.

And then a bow on view that I just thought looked cool.

The kit will be in 1/700 scale, and will be all resin & photoetch. No clue on details as far as price or production date. I'm still waiting on final approval from the client and for him to let me know a couple last details so I can wrap up the project.

I've already got a couple other projects for the same client lined up, including a modern container ship & a WWII Soviet destroyer.

I'm looking forward to actually seeing it.

Part of the deal was I get a kit when its produced. Already have a good idea on how to build it. So that I can display it w/o it sitting on a rod, I'm going to build a base like its coming in to land, and I'll use steel wire to represent the mooring ropes that are released at landing. I'll use 1/700 photoetch figures to look like the people holding the ropes as its landing.

Yea. The envelope portion is all a single piece, and then each of the gondola's are separate pieces. There are radiators on each gondola that are resin, and then the fins & rudders are all resin. And then all the struts that hold the gondola's in place are photoetch, along w/ the propellers and a few other pieces.
