Darn,
Laura's goin' lightning fast with her Ju-88: I say, thank Gawd we have a year to build these models!
As promised, here's some history on the Junkers Ju-88, one of the neatest WW II German war planes - IMO, that is.
Excerpt from Wikipedia...
"The Junkers Ju 88 was a World War II German Luftwaffe twin-engine, multi-role aircraft. Designed by Hugo Junkers' company in the mid-1930s, it suffered from a number of technical problems during the later stages of its development and early operational roles, but became one of the most versatile combat aircraft of the war. Affectionately known as "The Maid of all Work" (a feminine version of "jack of all trades"), the Ju 88 proved to be suited to almost any role. Like a number of other Luftwaffe bombers, it was used successfully as a bomber, dive bomber, night fighter, torpedo bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, heavy fighter, and even as a flying bomb during the closing stages of conflict.
Despite its protracted development, the aircraft became one of the Luftwaffe's most important assets. The assembly line ran constantly from 1936 to 1945, and more than 16,000 Ju 88s were built in dozens of variants, more than any other twin-engine German aircraft of the period. Throughout the production, the basic structure of the aircraft remained unchanged, proof of the outstanding quality of the original design."
After reading a lot about this very cool airplane, I think that the above info gives a very good idea of what the Ju-88 was all about - versatility seems to be it's middle name! Personally I've always liked it's design, especially when it sports those weird radar antennae on it's nose - unfortunately I won't be able to build it in that configuration
, as it was peculiar only to the night-fighter’s specs and this is a bomber GB.
I still haven’t defined which paint scheme I’ll use, whether the Battle of Britain classic green/brown/grey/light blue cammo, or one of the more appealing Eastern front choices – including winter ones. Guess it’ll be an “on the job” decision...
This will be my first build in some 8 or more years and then, I only seriously built cars. But I will have a tutor that will try to show me the light...
Oh! I’m also counting on whatever help I can get from you guys’n gals!
Cheers and have a nice build, everyone! B)
