I was getting a programming book for C++ and in the might be of interest to you part they had a book on Blender. Specifically Blender 3D Incredible Models.

So I decided to get it and see if I can learn by doing. I also got a book, Learn Blender 4.4 for more information.

The books came in today and thumbing through look pretty interesting. In the modeling book there are three projects to work though. First is a FM SLAR rifle, then a Sci Fi Racer, followed by a T-72 tank. Each project getting more intricate.
Blender if a Freeware program and as such costs you nothing but time and frustration lol. We'll see how it goes.

Well, nice to have the 3D artwork but not much when one can't print it!
Shapeways is back with the original (?not fully sure on that) ownership, and they are rebuilding it from scratch. I know a couple of guys, one in Netherlands, and one in N Carolina that had a bunch of stuff in the old Shapeways and are involved with the new one. One of them, I talk with fairly often and he says the New Shapeways is doing it right and putting in really good equipment and upgrading.
If you want to learn the programming and don't have the printer you could use them for testing the waters. Would be a bit more expensive than printing your own, but for occasional stuff or just learning that might be an option.

I dealt with Shapeways when they had their offices in Long Island City (Queens) NY. Nine years ago they disappointed me three times in a row and I stopped using them. I'm a bit leery to try them again.

From my Serbian clown thread:

They went away a couple of years ago. This is a completely new setup. From what I understand the original owners sold out and the new ownership never upgraded any equipment or anything and ran it into bankruptcy. I will have to call my buddy in N Carolina and get an update as he is involved with the reboot, not just someone that put stuff up to sell.
