So I am a What-If/SciFi Modeler, also a Model/Actor but that's another story  We all evolve when it comes to modeling, and one of the things I did to avoid insanity (for the most part anyway) was decide that I didn't really care about scale so much as I do about Genre. One of those few genres I build is Japan. This thread will be for all that. Remember I warned you that I am a what-if guy, so if that isn't your cup of tea, leave the thread, pour out your tea, replace it with Sake and then get back in here and enjoy! :drinks
First up the ATB, You can read about the history of the kit here:

Obviously a whif right out of the box I thought it always had a WWII look to it with its rounded wingtips and kind of simple style.
I saw a Japanese Carrier with this scheme^ and always wanted to put it on an airplane model-- Well it doesn't get much bigger or more "flat top" than this kit! So I went for it. Hope the pictures work here, they have been kind of finicky:
White on. The Gray circles are Lo-vis Hinamarus. I know that pink is technically the "correct" color in this case but I just thought gray would look better. ==)
I think it has a perfect WWII look on account of it being so darn rounded all over!
Strangely enough Black, which is normally a forgivable color wasn't working with my airbrush. So I decided to spray paint it, then go over it later with the Airbrush to keep the weathered look consistant. Tamiya Nato Black was a perfect match so I lightened it with a couple white drops. This picture shows it really well!
Big wad of masking tape!
Inspiration.^ As I look it appears I missed a spot I should have painted black! Err! (between to the two finger like patterns in the center) Might be Too late to change it now... still deciding :icon_ninja:
Most of the Decals have been cooperative but the Meatballs are a disaster. I still havn't decided how to handle it. Should I take them all off and start again? try cutting or sanding them??
been working on the Landing Gear AKA undercarriage in the meantime.
