Here’s a scratch-build model idea

So I saw a YouTube video. Not all of it was accurate to be sure, but it certainly makes for an interesting subject

AI is pushing a lot of bullshit info out there just for the clicks. We have to be careful about what gets accepted as factual. Personally I'm not trusting any content from creators who have registered in 2025.
I mean next thing we'll see is a movie of Andrew Jackson loading up a gator full of shot and touching off his rear.

That aircraft caught my eye for its smile and that it doesn't exist. Perfect for what if modelers though.

The video which claims P-39 noses were added to PT boats to create Devil Boats but I think it is wishful thinking or exaggeration as the armament was taken and used but not the entire nose. For nautical things, let's call @Rhino to weigh in!

I'm not even clicking that thing for fear of it corrupting my youtube feed. I'll see if I can find the AI generated audio book I ran up on the other day.

Yeah it’s just downright goofy. It basically covers using P39 Aircobra CANNONS from the Nose on PT Boats. Would make a good what if tho’

Oh, I see, it's a slide show of actual photos...made into a youtube video, with a BS AI generated intro that turns off people would might be interested in seeing the photos.
I don't know why content creators feel like this is a good thing.

It isn't only the AI image but the clickbait title written by the channel owner. It is NOT a P-39 nose but its armament, as you stated, specifically the cannon.

WW2 Records is the worst sort of garbage. Trash AI pictures and uneducated historical commentary. I could only bear to listen to 3 minutes of this baloney. Some Chinese 4th grader must run the channel from a place where Google isn't available.

PT Skippers knew the draft of barges. They didn't waste torpedoes on them. WRONG! Yes, the M3 37mm was a manual reload. You engaged the barges outside of the range of small arms fire with your anti-tank gun. WRONG again!

PT-49 is not listed as assigned to MTB Squadron 3, or a a vessel that belonged to MTB Squadron 2 that was transferred from Panama and folded in Squadron 3. WRONG!! How gullible do this KNOW-IT-ALL Ass think we all are?

The "Tokio Express" was made up of warships and the odd submarine. Barges didn't sail forth in large formations for Guadalcanal. The Barges didn't need "Armor". They were made out of steel for assaulting hostile beaches to begin with. STOOPEED!

The Oldsmobile M-4 semi-automatic 37mm cannon was mounted on many PT's as the SWPA conflict progressed. This gun was in fact, initially salvaged from wrecked Airacobras. As combat modifications were submitted to BuShips, PT boats arrived so equipped. The afterdeck mounted Bofors 40mm cannon made a huge difference in firepower, and THAT was when additional armor began to appeared on IJA Daihatsu barges. The lion's share of Pacific World War II PT ops were nocturnal. This is why small attention was ever paid to AA capabilities of the "Devil Boat" PT's. (So named by the Japanese navy.)

As early as 1943, aging 77-foot Elco PT boats were being converted into pure gunboats, to thwart Japanese Army barge traffic.
JFK's PT-109 loss is well documented, but little is ever said about his second PT boat command. PTGB-1

It is said LT. Jack Kennedy fought his second boat in such a way, that his squadron mates feared for his life and wondered about his sanity. Revenge? Possibly.

How did I do, Saul?

I'd already had that channel on my ignore list, several others also.
But @iambrb Kit bash away, you wanna put a P40 nose on some sort of PT boat, I'll hold your airbrush. :popcorn

I actually listened to the video (just before this was all posted). Yeah the thumbnail was absolute crap, but the info given in the video was quite good and seemed to be based on fact. The PT boats were having one heck of a time dealing with the Jap barges where the Japs were moving troops and supplies. The barges were armored and had a shallow draft. Thus the 50 cal didn't work and the torpedoes just went under and didn't blow up.
The P-39 has a 37mm cannon in the front and Henderson field had a number that were done. As a possible solution they modified PT48 and built a mount and mounted one of the 37mm cannons on the bow of the PT boat. It worked so well that they modded several more PT boats until they ran out of used and reappropriated units.
The photo and title are click bait, but the story in the video seems to be good.
