Ladies and Gentlemen of the forums we would like your help.
We have a few people who write reviews on our web site and it takes a bit of effort to do. Generally when I look at the number of people who look at the reviews there are very few considering our numbers. So the question is, are you aware of front page? If so are the reviews of interest at all? Are they maybe too one sided (not enough armour/aircraft}? Maybe they are items that you are not interested in so maybe you could let us know what kind of front page reviews or content you would like? We do not have any sponsors, everything is paid for by the staff and your contributions. But while there are some review materials that are given to us, most is funded by the reviewer. We do have campaigns and we have received prizes in the past which were donated my various hobby companies and here is the problem. When we do a review we try and let the companies know that it is up. If say only 2 people comment and 10 people see the review the companies are probably going to be less interested in us as a whole. Also those who do reviews are probably less likely to be interested in doing them if no one cares.
So could you please let us know what we can do to make the front page more interesting, what reviews are you looking for, how can we do a better job? Thanks in advance.
James

Admittedly I don't read through everything posted on the front page. But I do have the homepage set as my favorite and do a quick scan through the items there to see if anything grabs my interest, and requires further reading/investigation/absorption.

I am aware of it James . I only read that which pertains to my interest which is a fairly narrow range of items.

Might be good if something in the forums would draw better attention to the reviews.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever read the front page after signing up. I read the reviews when alerted to them via responses.

I only did the Iwata review because we were having a conversation sparked by the Budzik video and I wanted to share the results of both the brush and buying the Japan released version.

If you need or would like more, I'd be happy to write stuff. I haven't reviewed kits because we have the most professional reviewer I've come across in Saul, he's the Consumer Reports of models in my mind. Anything I could put together would be a opinion piece since I have little to back up my thoughts.

I think with the advent of Amazon, etc, reviews are a lost art. I've seen kits I know to be outstanding get one or two stars on some retail sites. When you read the reviews, it's because shipping was late or my favorite that I see way too often: 'it's a box of separate pieces that need to be glued together'. Even when it's from customers that know better. I have a GK Bass amp, which has a distinct sound not found with other amps. To play the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I needed that amp. The smallest GK available is about 65 lbs and $800. A little while back, someone came out with an amp emulation app that perfectly mimics the GK through an iPad into the PA. No more lugging around a 65 lb box of speakers. The app was $5 and works flawlessly. In terms of reviews, it got hammered because a majority thought that $5 and all it does is sound like a GK was absurd. I have a flippin' $800 box that all it does is sound like a GK. Sheesh.

Whoops, sorry about the rant...

I'll review or view reviews, whatever you need.

In terms of what you guys could do better?

Nada. This place is a lone safe zone in a complicated mess, I couldn't ask for more. Unless you can arrange for free kits and more bench time? :D

I know, but I can't get him to put stuff on the front page anymore. @Saul :smack :love

As you know I have a very selective interest, Self Propelled Anti Armor and Self Propelled Howitzers or books about the same subject. With devaluation of our dollar and crazy high shipping I may stop buying kits all together. After the first of the year just about all the ISPs are increasing their prices not to mention capping your usage, cable and satellite service going up after Jan.1st so i'm seriously thinking of shutting off the whole damn works.

The front page holds little for me and if it is shut down I won't even miss it.

I have the pub forum recent posts as my bookmark so I honestly dont read it much, thats not to say that I dont

Maybe a reference to the front page would be beneficial to views if people have access to it via the spruepub forum
