today there were 8 fire bombing aircraft flying over head for most of the day, going somewhere, then returning to base for refills I expect, never seen this in the area before.

Ian, that area where you live has had it's share of bad ones too I think, we are not threatened here but in this place we call Oz you never know, especially if the mountain goes up behind us then watching out for those dreaded embers falling around everywhere does make one wary of whet might happen.
30 degrees on Monday here for us, worse for the poor souls in the Blue Mountains with high temps and wind 70-100 kays predicted.
NSW Fire dept has issued a total fire ban in our area as well as many more.

At this time we have the house all closed up due to smoke all around, no breeze so it just hangs there, Saturday morning was bad with visibility down when driving, when we got to where we were going we looked back and the whole area where we live was totally blanketed by thick white smoke.
As you and I know, this is Australia!
