Hello! I’m Mike from HDSdesigns.
I have been a longtime modeler (last few years more like a model kit hoarder) and garage kit pattern maker. I worked at MB Models and make numerous patterns for kits and accessories. Some of my biggest projects at MB models was the Russian 203mm tracked howitzer, 30.5cm Skoda Mortar, and GBU-28.
Later on I started doing CAD design and some of my designs were sold on Click2detail, then Shapeways, and finally Cults3D.
I also assisted on the research for both of Pat Stansell’s books on the Sherman.

:salute:
I was stationed in Grand Forks ND a long long time ago. One of the reasons I didn't stay long.

Welcome to the nut house Mike! We do have fun here and are very much a group that shares info, reference needs, tips and tricks. I appreciate these folks more than my local folks that basically turned me off with their happy horse sheet.

Since I mentioned in my introduction that I was a pattern builder at MB Models and did the 203mm Howitzer and always thought it was neat when Adam Savage does episodes on old studio models I thought I would share some of my old work.

I don't have a lot of the old patterns left and what I have remaining is buried in a box somewhere. These are the trails and trunnion for the 203. The trail was one piece but has since broke in two at the glue joint. I used plexiglass for most of the large pieces and tacked two rail sections together to machine them as one so they were symmetrical.

I carefully drafted on paper (old school CAD) the trail so I would get the angles right. Mike B and I ordered rivets in bulk from Grandt Line of over 1000 spurs for .25 cents apiece and split the cost ( I still have some left).

We did a road trip up to Aberdeen and got permission to take extensive measurements of Russian 203mm Howitzer they had up there (it was captured by the Germans and then us).

Not sure why those attachments are not embedding.
I suspect it's because of the way I saved the files. I shot these on my Nikon D800 and the files were huge. I exported them down to a smaller size and didn't embed the color profile which I suspect is how a thumbnail is created. You can still click on them to see them right? I can on my end.

Plattsburgh, NY was cold and damp* but had nothing on Minot! I was TDY there back in 2/85 and it was terrible.
