Great day at work today

I’ve been watching the Blue Angels practice for half the day. Just on the other side of the building is Chennault Airpark formally Chennault AFB.

Also got to see a pair of F-22s.

We get a good view of those guys when they come down to NAS Corpus Christi as well. Always cool to watch them fly.

Barney, I work in Lake Charles. This is the former Chennault Air Force base, now the Chennault Industrial Airpark. Chennault was a training base during WWII (Lake Charles AAF Base) and then a training/SAC base during the Cold War. England, now Alexandria International Airport, is two hours northeast in Alexandria, LA.

Chennault has a two mile runway so they can bring anything in. We've had Air Force One last year when President Trump came to see the devastation after Hurricane Laura. President Biden came in promoting his infrastructure program earlier this year. I think three years ago the air show had a C-5 Galaxy come in for display and Barksdale sends down a B-52 when they can.

Great asset to have so close!

I grew up near Lockeborne AFB (Now Rickenbacker) outside of Columbus, OH. I remember the OH-ANG planes buzzing the lake we lived on and breaking windows!

The routine flyovers are probably the biggest thing I miss about Whidbey Island (and one of the reasons I try to get back a few times a year). I still remember when I first reported there out of A School in '94, cresting the hill to head down to the main gate and seeing the airbase sprawled out before me and the air abuzz w/ Intruders, Prowlers and the sporadic Orion mixed in.

C-5's are the coolest thing. I remember loading quite a number of our UH-1H's on one of those when our unit was being deployed back in the early 90's. Looks like they're doin' 5mph when they suddenly catch air and take off.

Great stories guys! Yeah, I used to live in Shalimar FL. where first F-4 Phantoms and later F-15 Eagles would fly over us all the time. Not to mention C-130's. I remember the Phantoms being so loud we would have to stop playing or talking until they were past. As we were used to that; we were so surprised at how quiet the Eagles were when they flew over, until they were past us; then the roar of their engines could be heard. Still not quite as bad as the Phantoms though.

I'll never forget the day at school, we were at PE when four C-130's flew over in formation. Wow was that a sight and sound to experience!
