Heavy flooding in southern Alberta yesterday.

I decided to head into Highriver to gas up on my way home from work at 8:00 am yesterday morning, normally I just head out onto the highway which does not go through town as I live 15 minutes south of there in Nanton, this is where the water level was when I crossed the bridge in town at that time

About 5 minutes after I crossed it they closed it.

Fortunately where I live there was no issues but apparently the highway washed out between Nanton and Highriver, more news and views here

I like the diving and jumping from bridge prohibited sign. Not much of a jump right now. Stay dry my friend! :drinks

Stay safe. Got some friends down around there too. I hear you're supposed to get more rain today also?

Thanks all, Nanton is not at any risk for flooding so we're doing quit alright here. Gotta go back in to work tonight, I shunt trailers at night at Cargil which is a meat plant 5 minutes north of Highriver, apparently the wheels of commerce have to keep turning :notworthy so the cows must die  . I guess it's quit a gong show there at the moment so no cumputers or phones etc. so should be fun :popcorn .

This video was posted on a news papers website, an just before the house hits the bridge an ad pops up for new houses and condos, needless to say I was a bit disgusted

especially since you couldn't close the add....

Crap! Just found out my niece, her husband and their four kids live in High River. I always thought they lived right in Calgary. They are safe and staying with her Mom.

The water is receding but still a lot of water out there. Cleanup is going to take months. The major highway through western Canada has several bridges out and Calgary's downtown us still without power. All that water is headed downstream to several other communities too so we are all crossing our fingers.

Tim, since I'm off work anyway it might give me an excuse to come out there once my arm is feeling better to help with the clean up. :D
