Good photo editing software?

Who makes an easy to use photo editing program? I can't afford a digital camera that is great at taking pix right now. Mine is a Sony Cyber-Shot. I really want to post better photos.

Sony's Cybershot cameras can take good photos, I do suggest reading the manual and practicing. Using a tripod helps tremendously. Take many more photos than needed and only keep the best ones. Have proper lighting and a simple background so as not to confuse the auto-focus.

That said, there are many good and simple free programs and some good and complicated free programs.

Depending on what has to be done, I have used Irfanview for most things but also have several file renaming programs, GIMP is a powerful tool (with a higher learning curve), Image Shark (with a name like that, I HAD to try it), and others.

Regards,

I will second Irfanview. It is fairly easy to use and does a decent job. Plus it is free so you can't beat that.

Ditto Irfanview and Gimp. Some old internets friends run the http://gimpchat.com/ site and you'll find a discussion of our Campaign ribbons there. Great people, tell'em Moon Puppy sent ya.

Irfanview can do the file resize, rename (even in batches) and some light editing. Gimp is more heavy duty, like Saul said, a bit of a learning curve. Funny enough, we work in layers to get our effects, well so does computer graphics.

Thanks for the info everyone. :drinks I know part of my problem is lighting. Especially in my truck.
