Francisco's 1/72 USCG Island Class WBP Scratch build.

So, it turns out I don't get to make the boat crane. Francisco beat me to it. He says the 18-footer is perfect. She stores on an inclined rack. I think a 16-footer may have fit better, but the references were scanty and we cain't ask Rafy and let the cat out of the bag!
Time will tell what Rafael's expert opinion is. I'm still working on the RHI boat instructions.

Finishing on the base gets a second varnish coat. More pictures as Francisco makes progress!
Thanks for looking in!

Weekend Update by Petty Officer Harry Bawls;

I made a tool to measure the height of the (aft) rail.

Here's how it works.

Next, I finished the base. 3 coats of polyurethane. I am happy with how that turned out. As you know it takes hours to wait for each coat to dry but the results are worth the wait.

The boat back rail is about a third lower than the rest. I learned that the hard way. The inclined post is were the lines attach to. The top of the incline post is about waist high. (These actually deflect a towing line from the after bitt from the rudders and screws. CCR)

….and finally, I started to shape the main gun placement and ammo boxes? - I guess.
(Correct! Ready ammo lockers are mounted on legs with a little less incline. The Mk.38 mount base is a column that attaches to the deck. CCR)

Harry can’t wait to go and rescue someone!
(I think the front of the boat rack needs to be a little taller to make room for the starboard side ladder to the flying bridge. Damn. This kid is GOOD! CCR)

We're going this afternoon to deliver the comms domes and propellers to Francisco for shipment to Rafael in Colorado this afternoon. I'll get some pict's of the prepped 1/72 scale kit.

Francisco has taken Rafy's 1/72 CGC Chandeleur as far as he is going to. Rafy's birthday is 20 August, so this amazing, one-of-a-kind 1/72 110' Cutter model will ship to Colorado pretty soon.

We had a nice visit with the Melendez family today and delivered the props and dome antennas today in time to be included.
The last 2 pictures show contents of the package. Clear and white printed decals, Francisco's exceptional hull/deckhouse assembly. The mesh gun 25mm platform and accurate ready ammo lockers are precise and accurate. (the TLAR 1/72 rescue boat is hiding in the decal baggie.)
2 times as many twin .50's as he could possibly need, 25mm mk.38 cannon and brass barrel. Lots of parts, with some surface conditioning and assembly left to build. I hope Mr. Rivera can solder! The mast and ladders should be lots of fun, if he can!

I am honored to be part of this project. It is my great pleasure to serve those that Serve.

Francisco is a little like our own Ian and Greg. He models and he has an artist's background. He's a talented Guy and a good friend! I asked if he would build the complete interior when he started framing up the hull profile. He chose not to. I thought for sure he would!!

Since the 1/72 RHI boat will be marketed on it's own, I made outboard and flag decals. Then two, not every RHI is a USCG boat, and since Mark Karolus sent me a New York Fire Department flag, there are a couple of those too. I got them right on the first attempt! :yipee:

1/72 USCG 18' RHI rescue boat. Complete except for her propeller. A guy can sand off the external lifelines if he wants, so applying the Coast Guard decals is much easier. The vessel is equipped with a Mercury 140 hp outboard. This is overkill for a boat this size, but it's ME.

With Rafy's birthday coming up 20 August, I have included the appropriate transfer document.

Well a rescue boat has to be able to scoot across the waves right?

Correct! No Coastguardsman that I know of ever complained about the boat being too fast. :yipee:
The shiny, new 1/72 RHI rescue boat kit is now for sale at tlarmodels.com.
